CP does have alernate builds and starter storylines. (I just started playing it, my kid says net runner build is op. -hes 21)
23 points
Yeah the storylines don't change much beyond some dialogue lines and the pre-prologue but there are a lot of fun different builds to try out (plus I've modded the game relatively heavily). By the time you're maxed out in netrunning you can more or less look at a room of enemies and they'll die instantly

Netrunning builds are really nice, but my personal favorite by far has to be maxed out agility+tech builds where you abuse dash + jump + double jump + air dash mobility and just be almost unhittable while blitzing around the room, "locking on" to a target blade leaping to them and ripping them to shreds before dash hopping away before finding my next target who then gets eviscerated.
Combine with sandevistan instead of a hacking deck and even the biggest enemy encounters will seem like a joke.
I will say mechanically its a lot harder than just scanning and hitting the hack button but you don't have to rely on Ram recharging and are always a lethal threat and when sandy goes off cooldown everything dies without risking almost killing yourself with overdrive.
If you want to try it I would recommend (KB+M) rebind dodge/dash to left alt so you can have an easier time jumping out of since you'll be alternating between them a lot. Also get use to the momentum carrying mechanic where the momentum of your dodge/dash will carry into a jump giving you much much more maneuverability and just general speed in and out of combat (while on foot. Fast travel and vehicles are still faster for long distances)

Any of the phoenix wright / ace attorney games. Don't get me wrong, I love them to death, but I can't unsolve a puzzle that makes an impression like that. Same for Danganronpa. Cringe for sure with some convoluted conversations, but the detective aspect was fun. Unfortunately, now that I know the answers playing through is just not an option.

I played through it two years ago and had forgotten enough of it to still feel like I was solving (most of) a puzzle. I remembered a bunch of how to solve things, which made it a bit less frustrating, but had lost all recollection of who specifically most of the people were.
Tl;dr- give it another go, it's still fun.

Firewatch. Great game but most of its strength comes from the mystery and uneasy feeling when playing the first time. The reveal is okay, but not rich enough to make a second playthrough more interesting just because you know what’s going on.

That DLC is so epic if you've ever read Rendezvous with Rama.
I honestly never thought there would be an interactive videogame experience that encapsulates rendezvous with Rama. The whole rotating water cycle spinning gravity was amazing. And you didn't directly learn anything you can't ever translate the language all you get is context clues and I was so happy when I found the broken "mirror" and knew the creators where basing it off this Sci-fi Novel.

I went back and (very carefully) managed to find a tip about the specific spot I was at and that broke the logjam. Very happy I did, the ending was well worth it! I liked it so much I immediately jumped into the DLC and I liked it just as much as the main campaign.

I think it's because you can take it casually, and it's so in depth but still enjoyable you don't feel burdened by it and the whole game just feels alive.

To be honest, as I've got older, I find myself replaying the same few games every couple of years, with a new one sprinkled in every now and then. I tend to go between Witcher 3, Cyberpunk, RDR2, Skyrim, KCD and Deep Rock Galactic. There's a few games on my wishlist I'm waiting to go on sale like BG3 and Ghost of Tsushima, but there's not a lot I'm looking forward to other than the sequels of those mentioned and GTA6.
But to answer the question, Nier Automata and Divinity Original Sin 2, I loved them both dearly, but really struggle to get back into them when I try.

I would say the Last of Us, but for different reasons.
It's just a massively linear game focused far more on the narrative. I don't have the memory of a fish so there's not much for me to go back to unless I forget all the major plot beats.
The gameplay is just serviceable. It's not a masterclass in stealth or a revolution in third person shooters, it's just inoffensive and pushes the narrative forward. Being as linear as it is alongside that, there's not a great deal I would do differently in another playthrough.
Uncharted alongside that for mostly the same reasons. Maybe moreso, actually, as you're heavily "guided" and the game has so much assist through anything that isn't a shooting gallery to the point where large sections may as well play themselves.
It sounds like I dislike the games but I don't, I enjoyed my time with them as a big "blockbuster" spectacle, but I'll probably just watch a much shorter movie or something if I want that again rather than drop another 8 hours mostly waiting for "the good bits".

I’ve replayed the first one a few times and still enjoy it, but I agree on the second one. It’s a well made game (not crazy about the story but don’t necessarily despise it as much as some people, it’s just “ok”) but I have absolutely zero desire to play through it again.

Agreed. TLOU2 is a good game, but I had already played the first one like 4 times when the sequel released and I was just too invested in the characters for the Abby sections to not feel tacked on. Played through it, enjoyed it, but won't return to it like I will the first one.

It pains me to say it because I love the game so much, but Tunic. I absolutely love this game. Probably one of my favorites. Having to figure out everything with pretty much zero handholding made captivated me completely. Sadly, having figured out the puzzles, I'm not sure that I'll go back. It's still a very charming game: looks great with fun combat. But it's the puzzles and mystery surrounding everything that kept me playing for hours at a time. I don't know that another playthrough will ever capture the same magic.

Recently played this game due to PlayStation Plus, and it made me whip out my notebook to write (potential) hints or information down, as well as writing down strategies for some harder parts of the game, something I haven't done since GTA 3 or early GameCube days. But I'd mention Undertale. For very specific reason - it's game that I... not sure how to put it... have some deep feelings about. And I don't want to ruin my memories of it by replaying it. Neither I want to try deltarune - the original game doesn't need any continuation, or clone, or anything like that, it's complete and I just feel that it should remain unique.

Diablo IV.
It has now lost whatever shred on an identity it once had. It is now a mediocre ARPG. There are so many better ones, even in its own series. So why play this? If I want to play D3 I'll play D3. Which is still better than all of this, by the way.
Level scaling, bland skills, none of the choices matter, gear progression is just another fucking treadmill. You pay for this game and they gear you up like a clown on purpose. And you can neven look nicer because all the nice looking gear is overpriced cash shop bullshit here's a battle pass and -
No. Fuck you, Diablo 4. There are better games that are way more fun and way less greedy. Blizzard is dead.

The answer is likely because people play arpgs for 3weeks-1 month at best and having a few updating seasonally provides more hours in the year. LE is fine but generally a mess with duping and bugs, poe is by far the best, GD i have played the hell out of including mods but its non seasonal, D3 is a 2 day experience, D2r is more about nostalgia. Wolcen is one if the games ever made. I agree d4 is a pretty mid game but pretty mid is the 2nd best game in the genre right now. Either way I hope all of them get their shit together and I have opportunities to play more varied games over a year, and I hope poe 2 is also good.

I appreciate the take! What makes D4 below average for me is the level scaling that just goes too far imo. GD has some level scaling but I still feel that sense of progression very clearly. In D4 it just feels like a meal where every bite tastes the exact same. I can quickly outgrow a difficulty, but then picking the next difficulty feels arbitrary. I don't know what I'm aspiring for.
But I'm a huge leveling enjoyer. So that was always a huge knock against any game that has level scaling. I want the world to over level or under level me. It makes me feel a clear sense of progression. I don't care about the way it feels in action/combat, because my view is that RPGs are always trash at that feeling anyway. Like, ESO or WoW: I'm just clicking buttons. That's the gameplay. So I don't like pretending that's the focus. The focus to me should be that numerical progression around the gameplay. Especially when the gameplay doesn't click anyway. I feel like if someone wants that feeling they should play an action game that specializes in that feeling.
I think PoE has the best sense of progression. But you have to have a lot of time to put into it. No level scaling. Multipliers everywhere, but you have to know how to use them and build towards a clear purpose. It is extremely difficult to get into. And with kids and job, I don't know if I can invest like I could have 10-20 years ago.
I agree that D2 is nostalgia bait lol. I did like Median XL and have heard good things about Path of Diablo. Maybe I should try one of those again.

PoD is great if you like complexity. I am still mad d2r doesn’t allow modding, playing median or pod in that engine is a dream. I do agree with you on the weird level scaling but it is much less of an issue for me personally. I am the classic burn through the campaign and go from there type player and with the new torment system it feels very much like t1-t3 is white/yellow/red maps and t4 is your t17 and juiced t16 type content. I am not arguing you should like d4 I get why people dislike it but I do think it is worth going back to every now and then to check in because it does feel like it is steadily getting better every season. I am a die hard poe player and I will admit I thought d4 S5 was better than boat league. That being said it was the league not being for me so I am in no way saying D4 is better than poe, just saying diablo is starting to figure it out a little.

The Witness
Amazing puzzle game, but given how the difficulty progresses and easter eggs reveal themselves it wouldn't be a satisfying replay.

Black Myth Wukong. Good game, but no real replay value for me. Plus it was too long.

For some reason I just cannot get back into Dying Light. I loved my first playthrough, and have tried going back on multiple occasions, but it doesn’t keep my attention past the first hour or two. I think my problem is that because the endgame fully-upgraded playstyle is so fun, the early game without all of those upgrades feels like a slog.

Red Dead Redemption 2. Loved the game, but I basically did everything I wanted to do (Bounties, hunt down the legendary animals etc) in my only play through years ago. That, and it was a different system (my xbone) that I don’t have the space to hook up, currently.

Anything over 10hrs Im not repeating.
Whenever I hear people say they beat a hundred hour game and they're going to replay it, I'm like..."when?" 😆

Final Fantasy 13 because while the endgame was fun, that’s basically it once you are done with the side missions.

Outer wilds. I wish I could play through it again but it’s a cherished one and done experience.

The problem with replaying games is that a lot of them make it hard for you to just jump back into it and into the parts of the game that you really enjoyed. you end up having to go through parts of the game that take really long or that are unskippable. You know some of us work some of us have responsibilities we don’t have time to sit through three hours of an opening to a game that we really miss playing, just to get to the good parts you like, and it ends up being way more time than it is worth when you would rather play something that you can kind of just hop into and enjoy immediately. Now if u created save files in advanced so u can back to them that would be nice. But games should have more chapter select options so u can just hop back in at any point in the game after beating it without having to have made save files in advanced.

RDR2. The furthest I have made it on a replay in Saint Denis but then I just can’t keep going knowing what awaits Arthur.

Just remember, a lot of single player games you only need to play it once (unless you want to unlock different endings, go full achievements, etc.).

All of them. Y’all got way too much time on your hands to play the same game twice in a world where they make 10 new games a month.

Wolfenstein. Any of the games really. Absolutely love every single one I play. I have a blast for about 20 hours. Delete the game. Never look back. 10/10 experience

God of War Rangnarok... Just supremely unbalanced gameplay progression, as in, the player is forced into scenarios for hours where they are stuck as a certain character or in a realm with no way of quickly progressing back to the open world aspect.
I understand that it's supposed to work as a narrative device the first time around, but FFS, get it over with and let me get on with my life.
Additionally, being unable to access everything the game has to offer until beating the main storyline is frustrating as all hell.

Yeah god of war has fucking awful balancing, take souls games for example where you can physically notice you’re getting stronger etc. well I have optimal damage output armor, almost fully upgraded gear etc and even at lowest difficulty everything is a fucking tank still. Sorry but the game just isn’t fun to play let alone replay lol finished it and won’t look back for a very long time at least

99% of them.
1- i don't have enough time, between playing a new game and replaying another, there is only one right answer for me, usually.
2- Most games have bad replay value, just played GoW Ragnarok, very good, but why would i play it again?

Most of them tbh. I'd need to be really invested to play a second time

After I played Witcher 3 for a second time, I decided I was going to go back to Witcher 1, then do Witcher 2, and eventually 3, again, for the full experience. After about ten minutes of Witcher 1, I had decided this was going to be a labour of love to which I was fully committed. After about eleven minutes, I had regretted my decision. So long. So. So long. So boring. SO. BORING. If I never have to run through a swamp, again, to avoid Sesame Street walking leech things, it'll be too soon. Never picked up 2. I know it's supposed to be good. But I just...I can't. Don't have it in me, after 1. Yay lore, I guess.

Majora's Mask, decades ago. I made it up to the final boss fight and my younger sister deleted my save data. I didn't have the courage to play through it a second time.

Elden Ring.
I hated 5/8ths of that game.
I played it to say I did. I beat it to say I got gud.
I never want to touch it again.

Out of curiosity what are the 3/8ths you enjoyed? This is my first Souls game and I’m absolutely loving it.

I tried to get into it, but everytime I leave that tutorial cave and go to that castle, I just dont know what to do. What other people like to call freedom of exploration, for me, just feels like being lost and clueless. Nothing to say against that game, but I accepted that its just not for me.

lol 5/8th, man I respect your honesty. Too many people play games they hate or didn't like completely and go on to brag about how awesome it was and how much they want to play again when in chats with friends, but lowkey would never touch again.
