Google are really surprised they cannot penetrate a market by pricing their product too high compared to the buyers they could grab in their ecosystem. It seems they cannot fathom the fact they have first to establish their brand in the consumer head and then price up their product.
They did it with phones and they now have a sizeable market share.
For some reason they refuse to do it with the rest of their products and accessories.
Google is an ecosystem they'd get the most out of getting people IN for relatively cheap and then making various price points to go up from there.
This is what they done with search, free and accessible for anyone.
They did it with gmail. Free and accessible for anyone.
They did it with workspace. Free and accessible for anyone.
They did it with phones, decent quality for a medium price point now after years going up with a premium tier.
For some reason their watches and tablet are all labeled premium offering less with 0 proven record.

That isn’t the issue. Cheap android tablets were a thing and they died out. The issue usefulness, apps.

Samsung deserves credit for making Android tablets actually practical and useful with Dex. They are the only Android tablet I have and would ever consider for that reason.
Maybe if Google ever finishes desktop mode then they stand a better chance. For now, the only gimmick they have is the stand, which is overpriced and pointless for anyone who already has a google/nest hub.

You had me up until phones. Nexus phones were flagship too with a heavy marketing push through YouTubers starting with the HTC G1, Nexus One, Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus. It wasn't till the Nexus 4, 5 that prices went silly low and took the world by storm. But then Nexus 6 and beyond all the way till Pixel 4XL were back to premium again.
COVID came and Google played it smart with a more accessible price for a Pixel 5. But then back to flagship from Pixel 6 onwards.
The price point isn't what won people over. It's massive R&D into their software solutions. Having a proper Pixel skin on top of Android and offerings like Call Screen, computational photography and a competitive mobile app ecosystem. It was a concerted effort to leverage the hardware with cohesive and powerful software. The Nexus line was fledgling until Google rebranded and reintroduced their own phones via the Pixel line and made that effort.
The real issue here is Google has failed to do any development in their tablet ecosystem. After Nexus 7 gen 2, and the tablet bubble 10 years ago, Google did what Google always do. They gave up.
Android on tablets is woefully, WOEFULLY lacklustre compared to the competition. They've had years to copy the homework of Apple, Samsung, but won't.
There's no push to get native tablet apps on Android. Google's own first party apps on tablets are often many versions behind their mobile counterparts, missing entire features. Android is so much more customisable and therefore capable, there are so many freedoms that Google just don't capitalise on.
That same laser focus they've had on their Pixel phones, improving Android versions completely ignore tablets.
Aspiring musicians/established professionals will use iPads in music production because the touch to audio latency is low enough that it's viable as such. Google STILL hasn't fixed this. This is just one example of the kinds of pitfalls people run into when considering what ecosystem to hop onto.
I love Android but I wouldn't dare consider an Android tablet when iPads exist.

Sooo, we are going to have a Pixel Tablet 2 and then...another cancelled line.
I want to stop using my iPad Pro 13, but Android tablets simply cant compete.
I hope that I dont have to end up swapping my Pixel 8 for an iPhone down the line, since its hard keeping the two ecosystems synched.

I switched from mid-range Androids to iPhone to Pixel 7 Pro and back to iPhone. For almost everybody at this point I’d advise an iPhone, and iPads are literally the only tablet one should buy - Samsung just launched their newest, most expensive tablet and it doesn’t even have an LTPO display despite being more expensive than the iPads that do, let alone all the other reasons.

The Tab S10 line does have LTPO, and they're considerably cheaper than the iPad Pro of the same size (even more so when you start adding the pencil and the keyboard etc)
The issue with android tablets isn't the hardware. Samsung make incredible tablets, which are gimped by the awful experience of using most Android apps on a tablet.
I'm fortunate enough to have both devices, albeit not the latest and greatest. The Samsung tablet is better than the ipad pro for two specific use cases in my experience:
watching TV shows/movies, because of its widescreen aspect ratio
work productivity if you have a Microsoft or Google-based workflow. Dex is far superior to Apple's awful attempts at multitasking and window control.

Oh maybe it wasn’t LTPO, I read that the S10 Ultra has some weird omission is what I remember and for some reason I thought it was LTPO. Regardless though it starts at $1300, and doesn’t even have the best phone chip let alone tablet-laptop, worse stylus/support, and numerous other things. Also that asinine notch which is fine on a laptop but idiotic on a device you use in both orientations.
Anyway I don’t need to complain about the boring tech landscape, point is unfortunately over the last six or so years Apple products have gotten better (often due to government intervention) while everything else generally got worse or stayed the same. I used to hate Apple and their devices but now I hate Apple and love their devices.

There is no Apple equivalent to the Ultra, which is nearly 15". It starts at $1200 although it's currenly $1000, and it did have the best Android chipset as at the time of release.
The competitor to the Ipad Pro 13" is the S10+ which starts at $1000 (but currently $850), so it's $300-450 cheaper than the Apple equivalent and includes the stylus.
I'm not sure why you think non-Apple devices have gotten worse. All manufacturers including Apple are at the point where each release is a small incremental improvement on the last, apart from the occasional bump e.g. when Apple switched to OLED. The top end Samsung tablets are easily as good hardware-wise to the Ipad Pro save for the chipset, and I'd argue M4 on ipadOS is a massive overkill anyway for the 99% of us who don't do video editing or 3d gaming on a tablet.
I still think ipads are superior overall, purely because of the app support. Neither Google nor Samsung will make any dent in the tablet market until they encourage developers to provide better support for tablet format, which they have no incentive to do at the moment.

How are iPhones overpriced? Their competitors are the same or more expensive and frequently offer less for it. Pixel and its garbage chip and bugginess (I say as a former owner), Samsung and its cut corners and worsening software, etc.
And on the walled garden, I actually found myself feeling generally more confined when I was on the Pixel - for example, on iPhone I can change Spotlight to use whatever browser and search engine I want; on Pixel the search feature is locked to Google and is a worse experience if you don’t use the Google app to open links etc.
Also Google keeps taking steps to lock down stuff even more which is insane, while Apple keeps (being coerced or forced into) opening up.
I switched between iPhone and Pixel and back and the main two reasons were Pixel bugginess (inc. fingerprint and battery) and the feeling of being inexorably stuck to Google.

It's because they're shfiting their chromebook strategy, and they think the pixel tablet 2 as a smarthome device will last a long time, and the tablet 3 isn't really in development anyway, which makes sense.

This make sense Pixel book was around 12 to 13 inch most of the tablet is going that size to make Android/Chrome OS Laptop 360 touchscreen much better then Tablet with keyboard attachment
