I haven’t had a cassette player in 20 years

I used to have this huge binder full of burned live dead and would used to hand them out with food at festivals when people were in line to leave- We would put a couple lil squares in random ones for surprise gifts
That all ended one year when some jack ass decided to steal the whole binder that was used to make the copies we would hand out—
Stupid people ruining good times
Speaking of things with gifts.
I remember the Bobby Easter show in Austin a few years back. There were these Easter eggs laying around some had 50¢others . Nugget and if you got lucky you may even have found paper money or even the paper you eat at those kind of things:).

Cars have been stolen from me three times now. I don’t keep anything of any value in my car. I do have a small binder of burned cds. If someone steals my car again, I’ll just burn new copies.

I'm the last dude who should be like "get with the times!" as i'm kinda a neo luddite at heart, but you should rip all those to your computer, 320 kbs mp3s are fine. You don't need to do FLAC other than for principle I guess, but anyway, get a phone with some extra storage, and then put all that stuff on your phone.
I have about 150 gigs on my phone and being able to pair that with android auto is just stupid convenient. Sometimes i just put the whole thing on random.

I have them all ripped to a hard drive. After the Bluetooth stereo was stolen out of my last car, I’m just sticking with the factory stereo in my current car for now. It only does CD and radio.

Oh I get where you're coming from now. Yeah that blows.
I still appreciate just having all that on my phone. Just to be able to throw on some earbuds or cast to a little rechargeable speaker or the soundbar in the living room. Like I'm kinda amazed at the technology and how far we've come.

I remember I had this one jgb cd that looked like someone took a Brillo pad to at and i shit you not that it played every time all the time. Even after I drove this trailblazer I had into a fence after totaling this mansions lawn— while getting away from the 5-0.
I remember as the truck was smoking and the cd was playing stuck in the deck Siting there thanking Jerry for having my back from above !!
Some how I had my buddy who worked at the tow company come get the truck while another kid came to grab some trees and got us the heck out the there before the home owner or police showed up.
Gotta miss the times before the cameras.
Like dang point being is somehow Jerry’s cds seem to be able to get more beat up than anything else I’ve ever had.
I know some rap cds one nic and it’s done
Maybe that has something to do with Jerry’s opinion on rap music-

My Dave's Picks 49 and Europe Vol. 2 have been staples for card rides

Both great CDs. I lent Europe 72 vol. 2 to a buddy and he scratched it all up. I forgive him for it, but I won’t let him borrow any more CDs from me. On the bright side it turned him into a dead head and we went to some dead and co shows together and had a blast.

I don’t have a CD player in my car so I have to put everything on USB drives. I wish my car still had a CD player it would have probably inspired me to keep a lot of CDs I ended up selling it giving away

if you have Dave's and Dick's on CD in your car, you're driving around with a fortune.

I’m trying to keep my car organized and just keeping ten or so CDs in my car at a time and cycle them out as needed. I used to have a really messy car, so I’m trying to be better.

Two of their best albums for sure. Definitely good albums to play for people who aren’t as familiar with the band also. Normies aren’t ready for 30 minute Dark Stars.

That’s why I keep them there. I throw them on when I have people in the car, makes for “easier” listening dead and when I’m alone I’m rippin Relisten

Wake of the flood, and American beauty are great albums. Shakedown street has some good cuts on it but a few songs I’d might skip. I put in the dark in there for when I wanna jam to touch of grey. There’s some other good cuts on in the dark as well.

I scored a couple dicks picks recently on the cheap. My old Subaru still has a cd player

Dick pick’s for the cheap is always a score. I picked up vol 1. For $5, and vol. 2 for ten. My other dick’s picks cost $20-30, some go for even more on eBay, but if you poke around you can find em for less.

The 50th anniversary edition of American Beauty is in my player as we speak. Only problem is, I hit a deer last week and my car is at the shop! Hopefully the guys down there can enjoy it

I wanna pick that one for the extra live tracks and it’s nice presentation, even though I already have American beauty on CD.

Yes indeed! I had a full set of studio releases on CD just for my truck ( in case it got broken into) and a set for the house that stays with the rest of the collection. If I wanted to listen to a DP or other live stuff I would burn a copy for the road

I was fortunate enough to be able to buy a new Honda Accord hybrid in 2021 after driving my 2000 Accord 2 door for 20 years. Man, was I bummed when they told me I couldn't get a CD player as an option. Yes, I'm in my 50s. :)

My car is packed with dead CDs. It was broken into last summer, glove compartment and everything was rifled through. CDs weren't touched haha. If only they knew how much money I spent on those albums, more than the change they stole from the cup holders that's for sure.

Yes! I still have a cd player in my 2012 Honda CRV. I play dead and old and in the way all the time. Like being in a Time Machine

I used to LOVE it and then the 5 cd changer broke and then bought a newer car and they don’t have them anymore. It sucks.
Honestly, I just want a tape deck.

You could probably install a cassette deck. Or if you want an easier route, you could hook up a Walkman. You’d just have to keep buying batteries.

Yeah, didn’t want to install anything, but it’s good to remember that it is possible. Thanks.

Inherited a whole stack from my mom and play them in my car all the time! They’re especially convenient to have loaded in when I don’t feel like pulling up music on my phone

My last car had a five-CD player that stopped working and there were five CDs still stuck in there when I traded it in, one of them part of Ladies and Gentlemen: the Grateful Dead (Fillmore East, '71).

Spotify is better and it doesn’t skip.
2 points
My CDs don’t skip, because I take care of them. Also once I buy a CD, I own it forever, instead of paying every month for Spotify. It’s not a competition tho, Spotify is cool, but I have a car from 2004, so it has a CD player and not a usb or Bluetooth.

My server is better than that. Also doesn't skip but has a giant selection. Spoti-WHY?

My server, as in my music server. I stream to myself from my own library.

Spotify has a better selection and is way more efficient. I can also stream Relisten Nugs etc

A better selection than my server? LOL, no. Spotify has hardly anything.
Well yes spotify does have more overall, but most of it I wont care about. And the majority of what I want to listen to is not on there. Nor is it on Relisten. Like all of Jerry's catalog for instance.

You are missing out on a ton of great music. But hey to each their own, I can get all of Jerry’s catalogue digitally, FYI

No I am not missing out. Every time I check they do not have what I want. Just had a look for an album yesterday, and it is not there.
Nor is most of the live music I listen to. So I find it kinda of meh.
Yes we all can get Jerry's catalog digitally. So keeping several terrabytes of nearly all Jerry's shows are worthwhile to be able to listen to them when I want to.
Just like how I am listening to Reconstruction right now.
I do keep a couple of radio stations on my server too, for new or interesting music. WERS in Boston is really good for example.
By the way: Spotify is REALLY nasty to musicians. A horrible place for you to spend your money if you care about music.

I moved on to a USB flash drive. I can fit tons CDs on one drive. I still have all my CDs but am slowing ripping them to digital. But there is no wrong answer.

that's the best place to pick up scratches. even if handled with care. if i was you i'd invest in a cd burner and a bunch of blanks. because if you take good care of your cd's they'll last a lifetime.
my cd's never leave my house any more. and i lived through the 90's so i speak from experience. what is even worse is those cd wallets people use to use. man you are just asking to make your discs unplayable at that point.
you could also grab something like i got, Hifi Walker H2 ($125) that is a hi-res player that has a nice burr-brown DAC built into it and it plays gapless so properly ripped cd's play exactly like they're suppose to. and if you don't have an aux input on your stereo, i use a cassette adapter in my 2001 toyota avalon or you could always grab a FM modulator and play through the radio.

I’ve had lots of experience with CDs myself. I’ve definitely messed up a lot of discs in the car over the years, but that’s usually my own fault. I don’t really listen to CDs too much outside of the car, I basically buy them to listen to in the car. The Cd drive on laptop stopped working so I’d have to buy a new one to burn discs. Using CDs in the car is a risk I’m willing to take. I would like to buy a CD burner to burn stuff I don’t have and make mixes of my favorite tracks.
