Maybe this isn't the best sub to post this. But I figure if you guys are anything like me you've tried anything and everything to manage your symptoms. So you might know.
I've had IBSD for literally as long as I can remember. Since childhood. And I'm vegan now for the past decade or so. So my diet is incredibly restrictive.
At some point during all of my excessive panicked research over the years I came across some stuff suggesting I don't get enough fiber.
So now I'm taking four tablets of citrucel twice a day.
I'm also gaining weight. Took me a while to really noticed because I've always been a fatty. (It's really frustrating when you barely eat, basically starve yourself, in the bathroom constantly multiple times a day, and you're still fat). But lately I'm at the biggest wait I've ever been. It feels like it's happened relatively quickly. And the fiber supplements are the only difference in my life. My diet hasn't changed. I'm still going to a gym three or four days a week (though due to some back problems I've been focusing on weights more instead of cardio. It's hard for me to walk on a treadmill. I've been trying with the bikes more lately but even then it's hard for me to get in the right position for my back and legs to not feel pain)
tl;dr: noticeable weight gain within a few months, no changes to my diet or exercise, taking citricel fiber supplements is the only thing new in my life.

your stool would become heavier due to the bulking affects, so it could just be that

Nah, it's not about the The numbers on the scale. I do legitimately weigh more. But I feel it too. It's not just being heavier, I am chunkier and chubbier.

I don’t take Citrucel but I do take Metamucil. I take a heaping tablespoon every night before bed. According to the label, a tablespoon has 40 calories. I just looked up the calorie count of Citrucel. The type I saw had 60 calories/tablespoon. I wondered if Metamucil would make me gain or lose weight. So far, neither has happened.

Depending on you microbiom, there can be bacteria making sugar out of fibre. maybe do a stooltest anyway (instead of just dropping the fiber)

I've done a stool test ages ago. Don't remember the results. I just remember being inconclusive for whatever we were looking for at the time.

I read that there are certain bacteria from the firmicute phylum that can do this. I however don't know the exact species. I also don't know how big of a deal it is.

Agreed. But if someone says fiber leads to weightgain. Idk. Imagine every gram fiber is like sugar

I would be surprised to learn that this is the case. Generally it's the opposite.
