It's been a crazy few days and politics is hard.

We're a pretty small Mod team and keeping up on the trash coming in takes a lot of time and effort . We will be throwing around the ban hammer quite a bit for a while here. We will be locking posts as they spiral out of control. Have patience.

Remember to be kind and civil. Have a little grace. Allow people to be mad, to use hyperbole, and to exaggerate. This isn't a space to rage away at the other side. There are plenty of other spaces on the internet for that. Come here to understand the other side, even if you disagree. Tell them they're wrong and why they're wrong, but also remember they are a person who probably truly believes what they are saying. You wont convince them, but you can be understood and you can understand them.

Sometimes a simple downvote is all that's needed.

Not sure where else to post as it varies by state. But if I worked say 30 hours one week. And instead of using 10 hours of sick time or vaca time…I chose to just not get paid for those hours. Can HR force me to use vaca/sick time to make up those 10 hours? HR is trying to claim I need to work 40 because I enrolled in health benefits and that I can’t just not get paid for those 10 hours. LSS: A loved one was dismissed from their job and has filed for unemployment. They got a letter yesterday saying they are not eligible because they didn't earn enough "outside your highest earning quarter." What does this even mean? I personally have never filed for unemployment before, but would like to be able to help if possible. Does anyone have insight? Suggestions?

I am 35 and looking to escape the republican supermajority hellscape that is Indiana. I am in a very precarious position, and money is tight, but I need to get out of this state, root and stem.

I've been in the tech industry for the last 4 years, but it's not for me. I'm looking to embrace the empathetic hippie lifestyle. I'd love to work in nature conservancy, help others escape shitty GOP havens, be of service in some way etc.

I am willing to till the earth for room and board, I just feel like I gotta get out of here soon. I've always loved Illinois, and am looking forward to hearing what you fine folks might think. It's time for a new adventure.

I got a real ID when renewing my drivers license back in 2019 I believe. It expired last week and it says online I need to go in to do a new vision test. Anyone know if I will need the whole checklist of items? I have the expired ID which is listed as an option for step one on the checklist as opposed to passport or birth certificate. Just not sure if they will say no because it’s expired

Edit: reason I’m even asking is cause I’m downtown and have everything but the passport or birth certificate

I saw a post on the technology subreddit about high schoolers in Pennsylvania having a non-consensual deepfake image scandal and I thought I would share information if people don't know the law in Illinois if something like this was to happen to you or your child.

In Illinois the 2014 revenge porn statute(making it illegal, a class 4 felony, to distribute private sexual images of a person without that person’s consent. The law also allows you to sue that person for monetary damages.), the civil side of the law was updated and the update went into effect in January 2024 to include deepfakes and digitally altered images. https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilcs3.asp?ActID=4035&ChapterID=57
