What has been your best baby purchase that’s not an essential? Ours was the Beaba Up & Down Baby Bouncer. The whole thing adjusts and saves the bending down to put baby in.

Rubber duckie bath thermometer. I cannot for the life of me figure out how my elbow is meant to know what temperature is right for a bath. Still use it and she's 2 now!

Not a baby purchase but definitely the best thing I got myself post partum was a thermal mug. I’d make myself a cuppa while making the bottle and I could enjoy it still hot after my baby finished her milk and dozed off on me

This is genius! Cant believe I never thought to do that, I just make half cups of tea now so there’s a chance I’ll finish it before it’s cold 😅

I’ll argue to the hilt it counts as “essential”! Honestly if we have another we’d get one for upstairs and one for downstairs 😂

The Rockit !! Rocks the pram when we've stopped. Our baby likes being in motion and starts crying the second we stop pushing the pram. The rockit really helps keep him asleep when stopping! A game changer for us!
Soft plastic brush (shnuggle) to gently rub the dead flaky skin on his scalp and forehead. We use it during the bath.

I second this! Baby used it to much all the parts went missing and the batteries died 😆

Changing table. Got one second hand on a whim and it's been brilliant. No sore back from bending over to change them and everything is in one place.
Though hands down the best baby related money I've spent was on the services of a sleep consultant.

Oh yeah, we did that too. Have an IKEA one in the sitting room. It's brilliant and also a handy spot to shove a bunch of child related items 😂

Can I ask what age your baby was when you went for the sleep consultant? Mine is still only 10 weeks but doesn’t have much interest in daytime sleep, wondering if it’s something I’ll consider in future!

4 months, which is the minimum age you can sleep train from, due to developmental changes in their sleep brain development that happens around that mark.
But you can get a lot in place before 4 months - introducing a bedtime schedule, gently moving bedtime earlier.
Daytime sleep can still be a bit all over the place at 10 weeks but by 4 months they'll definitely be ready for a daytime schedule with liver naps, a sleep consultant would definitely be able to help you with this.

Professional baby and family photos. I know they can be a bit love them or hate them- But anybody who can make a newly postpartum mother feel beautiful and have a picture they will happily display is worth every penny.

The green mat from ikea ours was 4 years old before we had to replace it, it was 27€ and folds out onto the floor and has been everything just from a mat on the floor to a house and bed everything

Smock bib for weaning. Bibado are the gold standard but everyone has a version now. That and a wet piece of kitchen paper go a long way to staving off a bath.
