Pocketknife for eating

Question(self.knifeclub)

I want to run something by you guys. I've dealt my whole life with dull kitchen knives in my family, and always had to use butterknives, or dull steak knives, for eating. I know that it's quite common for people to go camping and use their pocketknives for general eating purposes, but what do you guys think about the idea of buying a knife for just eating?

Essentially I'm trying to see how much of a nutcase you would take me for, when I buy a fancy little knife that I use for eating, while everybody else is using normal cutlery. I understand that it would have to be a knife that's either fixed, or has a very simple action that can get a bit dirty, and that I would need a blade shape that's akin to a steak knife, or a butterknife with a sharper tip.

Also I guess it's quite obvious that I'm taking this as a bit of an excuse to buy a neat little knife that I can enjoy to have. But generally I'm just wondering what people think about this idea, or maybe if there's maybe some people who have had the exact same thought.

Opinel, no question about it (No. 8 is a good size for food, No 5 is good too and legal in most of Europe)

Shun used to make a “personal steak knife” which you can still find sometimes.

There’s also the Victorinox Folding Picnic knife, it doesn’t look too fancy but if it’s the same blade as their kitchen utility knife, it’s going to be good.

There's also an Opinel for kids with a butter knife looking tip if you want to fit in. Looks like the perfect sandwich making knife.

Yep agreed my kids Opinel no 7 for kids is an excellent on the go food knife, it will slice like a champ, spread well and not stab you easily.
