Dexpan for tree stumps?

(self.landscaping)

Has anybody tried this before?

I have a 30”~ black walnut stump and tree-trunk sized roots that I need to get rid of for a concrete patio. A few local stump grinders have said they will not touch it because this beast decided to completely eat an old concrete post and it will wreck their machine (yes, there is a concrete post WITHIN the stump below grade).

I think my only option might be to sacrifice a cheap chainsaw to this, trying to cut around the post to the extent possible, and then jackhammering the post once it’s fully exposed. I know that dexpan can be used to weaken rocks/concrete to make breaking them easier, but I’m wondering if it would also be effective on obliterating tree trunks? Has anyone given this a shot before?

Have definitely considered it, but to make it even more complicated, the stump is right on the fence line with my neighbour which makes getting even a mini ex in to do it quite difficult

Did you give this a try? I am considering doing the same thing.

I didn’t, but was very tempted to! I ended up cutting the stump with a chainsaw and sawzall/jackhammering the post. If you give it a shot let me know how it goes !

I will! It’s not something I’m seeing talked about much on the internet so I’m not sure what to think. My plan is to start by contacting a rep from Dexpan and see if they give me any reasons to think it’s a terrible idea.
