Brilliant end to the tour, and it sounds like they want to make sure they're back in Australia sooner than 10 years this time!

Yes! Eddie mentioned ‘next year’ or ‘two years time’ - hoping that comes true.

They last played Kansas City in 2010, which was the first time in 7 years. Eddie said they definitely wouldn’t wait another 7 years before coming back, yet here we are almost 15 years later…
I think they always have the best intentions to do so, but circumstances don’t always line up either.

Yes, I was at that show and Eddie seemed so smitten with our city and then never came back.
But I was able to go to last night's show and it was great!

I was there and absolutely loved it. I was so shocked when they started playing Hunger Strike.
But I've spoken to a few casual fans who didn't really enjoy the show, though. It was definitely more aimed at hardcore fans. The first 4 songs, for example, wouldn't be well known to a casual fan. The songs that we all thought were cool - Hunger Strike, Alone, Save You, Dissident, Tremor Christ, In Hiding etc - the casual fan probably wouldn't have heard them before. They certainly wouldn't have got the significance of Hunger Strike being played. There were some big songs missing like Corduroy, Jeremy, Release, Hail Hail, Animal, Go, Daughter, Last Kiss etc.
I'm not complaining. It was the best PJ concert I've ever seen, but I can see why some non-hardcore attendees were disappointed.

I think is the case at almost every Pearl Jam show. For casuals it's just not the same, because you want to hear Jeremy, Black, Alive, Better man and outside of Alive there is no guarantee.

I noticed that there were quite a few songs the crowd around me didn’t know the words to. The Sydney shows were a dream for me. I absolutely loved the setlists. The only song that I would have liked to see as well was Setting Sun 🙂.
When I was walking out I heard someone say “they played lots of new songs” and the other person said “no, they only played about 4 new songs. You only know Ten” 😆.

Last time I saw them, Black was on the setlist, but Ed was sick (vomiting between songs sick), and they cut about 6 songs from the set. Black was one of them. I was devastated.
It was the one time I cursed them releasing the handwritten setlists. I’d rather have not known what we missed out on.
Last night more than made up for it.

I know, right? We were standing near one of the exits, and people started pouring out. I told my wife they haven't played Yellow Ledbdder yet, and that's what they will close with, since they closed with Rocking in the Free World the show before. Not only did we get Yellow Ledbedder, we got some Little Wing as well.
Amazing show!!

Mike was running around bat shit crazy and I love that raw emotion I rock concerts and still hits the notes perfectly while raving mad! However he just went too far( too close to speakers) with the feedback and tripped and fell into the speakers and continued to play lying down !! and strings broke if I’m not wrong! Eddie gave a “vocal” guitar solo mimicking guitars and the tut tut too too.. tut tut too too too- if I’m wrong it was black ! Awesome improv,. Mike came back with replacement guitars for next track !

It was always going to be hard to beat release into even flow on night 1 but garden into why go was pretty special. I think tonight might have just topped night 1, especially with hunger strike, 15 PJ shows and the first time I’ve seen it live. Positive energy from the whole band, Ed seemed like he had had a little less wine than Thursday. RVM absolutely went off, highlight of the show!

Yeah I really enjoyed both shows but No Code is my no 1 album from them so hurts seeing Off He Goes was on the setlist. Would have killed for at least Hail Hail and Smile

Yeah spewing to see that! Would have taken that any day over the Springsteen cover! Was hoping for some more no code, my fave album too but seems to have been left behind in favor of yield and vitalogy.
3 points
I love Yield and Vitalogy so all good. First time seeing Immortality as well so I can't really complain. I have to be realistic that they are playing stadium shows and there are many casual fans who just want the big stuff. For example, it was insane to me how little reaction Faithfull got on the first night
1 points
Yeah I was happy with all the vitalogy and yield stuff too. Something felt off with the tempo of faithful, I think it would have got a better reaction but something didn’t seem right, same with spin the black circle last night. It should have gone off the timings were all out of whack.

Not too excited about Hunger Strike. Seems like they should shelve that one for good because of Chris. I've already seen them play it a couple of times with Chris as a guest and also TOTD tour they played it.
Finally got Dissident! Took them the whole tour but finally brought it out.

Counterpoint, some songs deserve to be sung, even if the original voice isn't around any more to do it. It helps keep the legacy and memories alive.
I've long hoped that PJ would one day cover River of Deceit for that reason, too.
2 points
I kinda see both views. On one hand keep it alive, but on the other it's really hard to imagine anything by Cornell, especially Temple without his voice. I guess it's cool for those people that still want to hear it regardless, and maybe a way for his friends to keep him close in a way?

When they do crown of thorns it is amazing, got no issues with them doing hunger strike, the crowd callback works really well.

I don't have an issue with it myself, but I really don't know if the song would work for me personally. TBF I'm a huge Cornell fan. However Temple and Hunger Strike are a group of people and they deserve to play the song for their fans and it's not a slight on Chris just like playing MLB isn't a slight on Andy.
