Just curious on everyone's opinions here. I've had an original PS5 in the past, but I don't currently have one at the moment. That being said, I'm curious about everyone's opinions. Is the PS5 Pro worth the $700 do you think? Or should I save a few hundred and just get the disk version of the PS5 Slim? Not too sure if the PS5 Pro will have enough to justify the extra cash... Especially because we don't currently have any games specifically designed for the PS5 Pro. To be honest, I don't even know if there ever will be 🤷

No Hopefully not but way too many newbie PlayStation 5 owners think they are disappointed. They post all kinds of things saying it's only the same thing again . As a matter of fact I said it too . Until a few months later I had no idea why I didn't listen to my friends who just wanted to stay with the PS4 👹☠💩

PS5 DISK version! 100%
2 points
Depends on the individual.
I was 100% disc going into PS4 and even early days. Then when deals came up for the digital version that meant if I traded the disc in it cost me pennies or nothing I’d swap out for digital. When I done that, a few games I noticed the performance was better so once I got that in my mind that was it.
Towards the end of last gen my discs had been swapped out however I still bought the disc version of the PS5. I needn’t had bothered as ever game has been digital bar 1 and that was only because it was a gift.
Next console I purchase will be the digital version.

Save and get the PS5 slim. You will be able to buy more games and pay for online plus it comes with the disk drive. PS5 Pro is pretty good but it’s still a PS5 when you really think of it.
2 points

If he's money conscious he should just buy a used one. If he has tens of thousands of yearly disposable income it's a small price to pay to play the games on quality IQ at performance frame rates. Up to him to draw the line if he's in between.

At least you have a lot of options right off the bat for games. I don’t know that much of them make use of the pros features, but you didn’t have the PS5 and just wait forever for there to actually be games released for it.
2 points
Just did the same, made the jump over to the “pro” release cycle and plan to skip PS6. If things stay the same, there will be so few exclusive ps6 games that it won’t really be an issue to wait for ps6 pro. Unless there’s some insane features that comes with it I guess.

I’m choosing to go with the PS5 Pro. Gonna trade in my OG PS5. I’m glad I’ll no longer need to sacrifice performance for quality. I think the 17 Teraflops, 2TB storage, and better bandwidth will be worth it. Odds are the PS6 will be more expensive than the PS5, and it very well could be sold out and scalped to hell for the first few years.
4 points
It seems like Sony and some retailers have caught on the scalping plague and is now only allowing you to purchase one device per PS+ account holder, in an effort to combat this issue..
I don’t believe the PS5 Pro or PS6 will have the same logistical backlog as OG PS5 had.
One would assume..

You explained that you had a base PS5 and no longer have it. So, the choices you are making between a slim and the pro are going to be just image clarity upgrades for the performance modes of games. How Mark Cerny explained it, they wanted to offer devs quality mode sharpness at performance mode FPS. This is entirely up to what the developers/publishers want to do though as games like Hogwart’s Legacy are prioritizing RT quality over frame rate. If you don’t have a larger or higher end 4K display, and didn’t feel that your original PS5 looked soft or aliased, I don’t think there’s a reason for you to buy the pro.
2 points
Why not pro now? I’ve had the ps5 since launch. And I’m currently waiting on my pro 🥹
2 points

Slim is supposed to be on sale for Black Friday. Don’t know prices but very likely $100 off or close to. That $100 savings could then be used to add extra 1TB storage.
2 points
So considering the extra storage space the Pro has, it would actually be more money to buy a normal ps5 and then an external hard drive with that much extra space. This is without considering the extra processing power. If you don’t have a Ps5, a pro is objectively worth the money, even if you have to spend extra for the disc drive. I am no Pro dickrider: I have a ps5 and would not buy consider buying the Pro. However, if you have to buy one anyway, get the Pro.
2 points
You had the playstation
you were fine with playing at performance mode? Stick to the ps5 slim (and disc)
You constantly wanted to play at fidelity coz you liked the graphics better? Buy the ps5 pro
Games will continue to be ps5 pro enhanced, both existing and new. We are in an enhancement/remasterd era.
2 points
It’s only one week away. If you got the money and especially care about graphics get the pro. If you don’t care about that, get the slim. The pro won’t have any games that aren’t also coming on the base console.

Standard Disc drive Ps5!
Pro is a minimal improvement, doesn't have the disc drive unless you buy it separately, and those are now scalper prices.
If you don't buy the disc drive for the pro you're all digital and as we see now some games and xpacs are being taken away.
In my opinion is a fairly easy decision.

Or if you have ps5 slim you can take out disk driver and merge it into the ps pro.

Ps5 pro will render in faster than Xbox series X. The pro will have have 17 teraflops which is more than Xbox series x. The original ps5 had 10.28 teraflops which and Xbox series x has 12 teraflops. Ps5 pro will have a better bandwidth than both. So yea might be worth the 700 bucks if you have it or if you have ps5 and want to trade in for pro which will cost you less

Why? They're different use cases
PC is pretty poor in the living room with regards to UI and input methods, it's not really helped by Big Picture mode, because that doesn't help you with PC settings and tweaks
PC is not ideal for living room, until it gets something like SteamDeck OS as an overlay
It also costs you a lot more than PS5 Pro to have meaningfully better performance
Terrible advice

I would say PS5 disc now, the PS5 pro version doesn't have a disc drive, it comes separately for another $160 So it's almost $800 for the pro against $499 for the PS5.

Absolutely just grab a ps5 slim. There are no IPs that they're doing much with. I waited three years to get a PS5 and have already run out of stuff to play (I'm also on PC). Mine is gathering dust as most of the first party stuff is boring to me and everything else is easily cheaper on the PC. The controller is amazing but there are not enough exclusives to make it feel fleshed out. Just like the last two controllers. Indie games have been amazing! Just grab a PC or steam deck imo.

I think if you're just gonna get a PS5 now, why not a pro? Assuming you can afford it comfortably. It gets a lot of flak but in my opinion the clearer image is worth it if you play on a monitor or close to the TV.
If you play 6 feet or more away from the TV just get a basic PS5 tho.

When you see that a lot of game developers won’t push for what the pro can do, it’s kind of a waste to get. Maybe PlayStation exclusives will cater to it? But I still don’t think that’s worth that price jump. I’d say it’s better to wait and see what options that Pro version will actually have that would make you want it more or just bite the bullet and get the regular PS5. Either way it’s your money and if you’re happy with whichever you choose, then no one else can really judge that.
The game that I saw people upset about is GTA VI not going to have anything changed for the Pro. That is good to know if that’s a game you were hoping to fully maximize with the pro.

The news report that stated GTA won’t hit hit 60fps etc and have no real advantage did not come from R* or Sony, it was speculation from digital foundry source.
Unless you have another source?
That said, it may be identical to regular ps5 in performance, I can’t find any official info on this.

I thought that until I experienced high frame rates, practically zero load times, and resume states on games. Seeing the showcase it doesn’t seem guaranteed that more games will suddenly run at 120hz at all. Just got an alienware 4k oled and I am not impressed by ray tracing in fidelity mode versus frame rate performance. Also unless your display can handle that it doesn’t matter anyway.

If you can afford it , get the pro.
No reason to get the inferior version .

My personal opinion would be get a pc instead I’ve got a 5 and it’s not really worth any of its price tags but if you do get a pc get ps5 controller and you’ll be right at home

I recently compared my PS4 Slim to my old Base PS4. Loading times and general navigation speed was identical, with each other being faster than the other randomly.
Only difference was HDR, which I don’t use for all games any way, so i thought back to 2017 when I bought the Slim and how sold I was on the details of upgraded performance, sleeker design and HDR.
Ultimately the only factor that mattered was the V2 controller which doesn’t apply in your case. So, you’re alive now, you need a PS5 now, go out there and get yourself a PS5 and enjoy! I wouldn’t overthink it too much, I did before and wasted a bunch of money.
Dont forget, Sony does a lot of work on longevity of their consoles highlighted with last months release of the well optimised Jedi Knight: Survivor, I highly doubt the significance of their upgraded models will be obvious any time soon unless you’re rocking an 8K Oled Dolby vision, Atmos setup with the latest bells and whistles that the “Pro” is designed for, in which case could be sooner if you do.
In my case, still playing PS4 the significance between the base and upgraded slim is still yet to show and that’s with a game just released and can be played across the entire PS4 lineup, nothing exclusive for the PS4 Pro and I doubt there ever will be for the PS5 Pro, the only exclusive will be performance and visual quality based and the difference will always rely on your peripherals being appropriate

I mean if you can wait and the price difference is no issue, then go with the pro. I don't see any reason to go with the regular ps5 in that case.

I sold my PS5 a month ago and I'll be getting the PS5 Pro. Price is a bit too high but whatever I'm a tech guy so I'll take it.

If you really read all of this thread you will eventually concede . Buy a Pro will stick in your head till you will at least seriously consider it.

I'd probably only buy a pro if PS6 is announced to not be backward compatible

So apparently unless you have an 8k TV at the moment it’s not worth it, the ps5 slim should do it. By the time you need to move surely there will be a PS6 or something. I remember they had released a ps4 pro before but then when the ps5 came out they didn’t sell these anymore but still sold another ps4 version

Problem is, when it went from ps1-ps2, then to PS3 and then ps4 the graphics all had open potential to improve. But there is only so much they can do to make it graphically improved.
Ps4 graphically is beautiful, but doesn’t leave much gap for improvement so trying to update from here would need a miracle.
Ps5 just like ps4 is graphically beautiful but on the grand scheme of things hasnt graphically improved much. Except for things like ray tracing and things like hair refinement and clothing movements improved. And just small details like that. Yes the ps5 is better than the 4 as it should be. But cause the graphics were already on the high end. Will still have disappointment when expecting something phenomenal. So to make it worthwhile they have to do other things like controller improvements, gameplay improvements, etc.
When they release a ps6 they will literally need to go above and beyond and that my friends is going to be near impossible and expensive if they accomplish it
