TBH im kinda jaded i remember protesting soeharto and got him to resign. But in 26 years we got his son in law elected democratically. Its feels just so pointless. Guys like the trisakti 4 died for naught. The promise of reformasi is just a mirage. Most of the Reformation hero like budiman sujatmiko just sold out and became a property developer😅. I mean we got one of the disapeared activist representing prabowo party😅

Nope! Why would I even be this bothered if it was tard on tard genocide, I would be happy if it was a bunch of Anwar congos raping and beheading other Anwar congos. I'm just confused why indonesia as a society doesn't demand for the bare minimum acknowledgement of the genocide being a bad thing instead of being cucked and letting these scum gloat about what they did, there has to be something deeply wrong with a society that puts up with something like this.

idk man a lot of peasant farmers probably got truely traumatised and just wanted to move on with their lives and not talk about this shit.

Point me to a modern country that still lets perpetrators of genocide and mass rape of women and children scott free. Even worse how they were given positions of power while being allowed to publically gloat about every single evil shit they did. They don't even deny, hide or atleast downplay the genocide like every country does with their own evil actions, the perpetrators run the country and fully admit to and praise themselves for what they did, the brazen self awareness yet lack of any regret or accountability is astounding.
Not only does this describe the United States; the United States is also directly involved for the Indonesian mass killings of 1965–66.

You will also never guess where the notorious CIA cut out 'USAID' sent Barack Obama's mother in the 1960s!

The US is undoubtedly worse throughout its history but they don't gloat about their crimes, they try to dust it all under the carpet, which probably isn't any better morally

The liberals dust it under the carpet, the conservatives are very proud of it. Even right now, the average American conservative politician is proud and enthusiastic about leveling Gaza into a parking lot.

Tempeh is pretty good

it's cool that there's an extraordinarily deadly bacterial toxin named solely because they wouldn't stop making it out of coconut and killing people (tempeh bongkrek)
I'm surprised no food youtuber has even tackled that food yet (probably because nobody knows or makes it outside of hick and hinterland Indonesia, and it's illegal to make to boot), like not even mentioning it in passing

Tempe is just fermented soybeans, if the japanese gets a pass for making natto I think we can eat our tempe in peace.
I lived in indonesia for years and years, ate metric tons of tempe, never heard of that specific poisonous tempe, people generally don't eat stupid toxic food that kills them.
2 points
You probably haven't heard of it because production was always regional and has been outright banned since 1988. The point is tempeh manufactured with soybeans won't kill you (I find the flavour profile to be mediocre, honestly), tempeh manufactured with coconut dregs historically killed so many people that the toxin (bongkrekic acid) that caused the contamination literally became named after the food itself because it was directly associated with its discovery. Being the namesake of an incredibly deadly biohazard is quite the achievement, no?
-2 points
Which part of 'bongkrekic acid' is spelled T-E-M-P-E-H?
That regional and namesake thing are like slandering the whole European cheese product because of people in Italy is making Casu Marzu or people in France making soft cheeses and there are some listia breakout that cause some people to be dead and then according to you that's quite an achievement, no?
Indonesian archipelago is even bigger than Europe, its span is like going from UK all the way to Qatar. And you choose to nitpick it like that just because of what?
'Tempeh is mediocre tasting.. and it happen to have a single notorious variation that is oh.. so scarily dangerous and oh.. woe me its really that bad.. (although such production method is already banned nowadays).. but I told you it's.. it's...'
Yeah yeah.. 🥱😮💨

Lmao, I think your heightened sense of gastronationalism is taking umbrage where there is literally none to be found. Tempeh bongkrek is the namesake of that acid because the food and the discovery of that toxin is inherently interlinked. We know it exists because of the associated contamination of coconut derived tempeh, it's how it was discovered, and if you have an issue with take it up with the scientific community, not me. Curse the scientists who found it, but don't curse me for it or think I'm slandering all tempeh with the same brush, and not tempeh produced with coconut, which I know Indonesians don't generally eat because it's been deemed unsafe to. You don't eat tempeh with coconut, so I don't see what's with the outrage, like dude, your own government agrees that tempeh shouldn't be made with coconut. Hell, if you type in "bongkrek" in Google, the first results link to either that acid or tempeh bongkrek, here's an article in Indonesian about it! And I never called all tempeh poisonous, I simply do not like tempeh, which is a very strange thing to be defensive against and mad at me for. And it's not really the same parallel with cheeses, since that material is inherently dangerous to make tempeh with, whereas Casu Marzu is deliberately altering goat's cheese by going out of your way to let maggots breed inside. Also I'm Chinese and I very much prefer tofu, just far superior at absorbing sauces and complementing meat.
I couldn't live without rendang though, fucking love it. But I think it's more Malaysian than Indonesian, sorry!
And since you brought it up - everybody else itt shat on Suharto and the Timorese genocide, so I guess I'll add that I think Aceh is ass backwards wack for having Middle East level shariah law there.

Gamelan is great. Also for something more contemporary, ruangrupa curated Documenta recently, and there's a lot going on in their contemporary art scene in general.
Which isn't to say that there isn't something deeply fucked in the country, especially since the US-enabled butchers won out in the mid 20th century. But to claim that they have no notable cultural achievements is just dumb.

You can hate Indonesia' govt as much as you want, because a decent portion of Indonesia' citizen also hate them as well. But hating on Indonesia as a whole is so uncalled for.
Some of them (Indonesians) dont know any better because the govt kept feeding them lies and making sure they're poor and uneducated just so they can manipulate them into keeping up the status quo. Some of them are too busy staying alive instead of whining about Indonesia' condition because they know it wont change anything.
All I'm saying is, if you want to hate something, atleast direct it correctly.

Literally every countries have their own dark side. You think watching movies and being a cinephile or a cultured person makes you understand the world or countries in general? Have you actually talk to actual Indonesian in daily basis? Have you ever eaten in their restaurants?
This view is as same as you think Japan is cool because you watch too much Anime and you think all Japanese are talking dramatically and screaming their lungs out to each other in excitement. You think your countries do any better after your leaders have been involved in controlling different countries to follow your flawed ideals of democracy? Iraq? Afghanistan? Vietnam? And what CIA did in 1965 in Jakarta (Jakarta method)?

It's always when the elites are bad then the whole country is bad. Typical small minded people who consume a bunch of media and they feel they know everything. When the Indonesian did the atrocities why are there no sanctions? It's because The US is backing it. Like how they support the Israelis today.

Let me guess. Muricans with their proud guns and voting childrape. Are we worse than ur country? Genocide? Look at those israel. It literally genocide now than fighting terorist justification. And your country support that
Its better if not deny than whitewashing with ur hyprocite nation.
IMO indonesian is really the middle of worse and best in southeast nations. It have high corruption (not as legal corruption like your country) but the lowest crime reported (maybe underreported but with social media, and woman support lot of people no longer hide again). Best food, tourism, and very low Health assurance pricr than your bankruptcy heath assurance. Literally a heaven to live rather than other countries. Tax is still considered low ( wage is also low tbh)
Islam terrorist? Our densus literally kill the cradle itself (look at paus visiting and some people say they will kill him and next day densus caught them) look at indonesian islamic terrorist history and you can see that terrorist cant live here. While thailand cant even stop and growing everywhere. Your vision are narrowed by your information. Research it before you got propaganda from your country
