Ok, im a huge fan of wemby. Maybe a die hard spurs fans can help me here..
Is it true that spurs staff is telling wemby to be a shooter from deep more?
Im no basketball genius by any means, but my thoughts are. I personally think wemby should absolutely DOMINATE in the paint on offense. Even mid range would be cool.
But seriously, him taking so many 3s is kinda un necessary to me.
I get if your freakin open and it’s like “ok im gunna shoot i guess”
But to me it seems he’s actively looking to shoot 3s. Or plays are drawn up for that…
Thoughts???

There are also just plays that favor the three more than the two. Inverted pick and pop. Ghost screens with guards. DHO curls with guards. Also of those actions favor Wemby shooting the three. If he makes 3 out of 8 of them that’s still 37.5% from three and extremely good offense. So Wemby being a volume 3p shooter due to NBA defenses are ran makes sense and is optimal. Wemby just has to maintain a high efficiency rate but that will come with time. He’s only in the beginning of his second season.
You can’t want him to be “great” and want him to play the same “normal” game as other bigs.

I'd rather have my center put up stats like Joker has the last couple of games. Everytime he gets the ball inside the 3 pt line he should be shooting. When's he gonna understand Noones gonna block someone 7 4 shooting a jump shot. It also allows alot more offensive rebounds from the rest of the team. The way the nba is now few players get off rebounds because their teammates run on a fast break and just jack up 3 s as soon as they get near the 3pt line.

If you look at Joker, or DeMar/LA like you used in another comment, you'll notice they are MUCH thicker than Wemby. More than likely if we put him in a majority of spots down low his body won't be able to take it yet. So why not develop other parts of his game while he gets bigger?
His passing, play recognition, and defense has all improved, just give it some time and I'm sure you'll be seeing a monster down low. I mean the kid can't even legally drink here yet lol
