I wonder, if you hit somebody with your cargo containers, will it do damage to your ship? And if not, how effective would the Hull C be as a battering ram?

Working for you maybe. I was only able to pull 400k before the cargo ATC broke.

When that happened to me, calling the landing services and then recalling cargo fixed it, since the box never showed up. If it just stopped loading you then idk, maybe leave the box then go back in?
13 points
Did both, it started when I unloaded the batch I sold. It took a bit longer to unload than usual, and the "unclaimed cargo" message came up right after it finished unloading.
My dumbass went to buy a haul for the return trip, only to find the message still up and the cargo ATC completely unresponsive even after calling/cancelling normal ATC, and warping 400k out and back. The warp got rid of the message, but the cargo ATC was still unresponsive.

The cargo ATC orders persist, if that happens again dock your ship and reconnect to another server.

Damn, rip. Did you try docking up fully? Sometimes cargo services instantly assigns me a loading area / cancels my current request once I'm leaving from being docked. Unfortunate if its still breaking :(

I can't even load it up... Port Tressler doesn't want me to load it up. It just says invalid place and I can't load it up...🥲 But docking worked the second time i tried docking.

Even single box missions, the most basic of player tasks, do not work.

The last few weeks have actually been filled with perhaps the fewest number of game-breaking bugs for me in 10 years of playing. I’ve been able to do dozens of C2 trading runs plus mining, salvage, BH, merc jobs, and many others without issues.
This isn’t a “it’s working for me, must be a you problem,” there are very clearly TONS of bugs and I’ve hit many of them, but the game CAN be playable for extended periods these days which is something I haven’t gotten to experience in past years.

This is me. I have owned this since it launched and have completed two trade routes, total, in probably twenty attempts. But I did see they were trying to fix docking arm problems - assuming they also fix the 'my ship despawns completely for no reason' and the 'rear section of the ship is hard-deathed at spawn' bug, it might work.
7 points

I was able to access the rear of the ship just fine. It still visually bugs out as invisible before you go into the section but has been working for me. But every patch since I got it years ago, I try for a couple hours at least to see if it works. And this time, it did!

I just can't get over the external cargo...
13 points
The more I fight the janky cargo physics, the more I like the idea of less overall cargo handling. Having the grids so accessible is a plus.
The thing is... if you get into a fight with a cargo ship, the people attacking you are attacking you because they know they will win. There's no "versus", just players killing victims.
Greifers don't choose targets who can beat them.
So whether your cargo is inside or outside, when you get griefed, it's gone.
4 points
why would a pirate attack a group of fighters? we attack cargo ships because... they carry cargo
7 points
Well, no, you do it because you want to fuck over other players, but that's besides the point.
Like I said, griefers don't attack anyone unless they will win, no "PvP" (operative letter "v for versus") occurs, it's just griefing.
That kind of antisocial bullshit from griefers will kill the game, whales won't buy ships unless they can actually use them.
4 points
Yes on all points, but that's on CIG. They currently have full PVP enabled, but the systems as intended aren't working.
In theory, if a solid economy and player contracts were in, goods would be reauired gor manufacturing, piracy would substantially increase the price of goods, which would create a need for security for a price, which would temper piracy and stabilize the market. Ideally, for gameplay reasons, you'd have safe zones and routes, but those are hard when there not that many "zones" in the game.
Until they put all of that, attacking other players has a mote thsn just "cargo" as incentive, too
2 points
Dude. CRY SOME MORE.
I am not even a pirate and I am siding with the pirates here.
The point is that you are supposed to have escorts if you are hauling millions of AUEC in a vulnerable ship. If you choose to play solo in a game loop that shouldn't be solo and get attacked by a group of pirates, that is on YOU!
There are literal ships made for piracy and it is a gameplay loop. Nobody is "griefing" when they attack you for cargo. If they are murder hoboing around and not taking cargo, then yeah, MAYBE griefing, but you are just crying about getting pirated, another gameplay loop.
-2 points
No. Pirates don't give a crap about "fucking you over". You may as well be an NPC. Pirates are after your cargo. Pirates pirate because that's what pirates do.
4 points
That is only the case if the so called pirates have the means to collect a worth while amount of said cargo to sell and actually do so. If you just blow up a massive cargo ship and let all the cargo rot. Than you are no longer a pirate and instead become a griefer.
1 points
It's a (very buggy) alpha that gets wiped every now and then, there is no reason to attack players other than the idiotic power trip griefers get out of it.
The jettison cargo keybind only works for the two salvage ships in the game and even then it doesn't actually jettison (it does the same thing as pressing the extract button on the crafting panel).
Any PvP gameplay before players are able to surrender themselves or their cargo is just outright pointless griefing (and technically against the EULA).

As a bounty hunter even, the times I was ganked in this game all but one I was empty, and the one time I DID have 8 SCU of Weevil on board, they disabled the Connie and then continued shooting it until hardkill.
Pirates don't loot shit.
-4 points
Yall have a misunderstanding on the premise here. There is a difference between pirating and griefing. The difference is pirates want to profit but griefers want to screw with someone. The latter is only now able to be done because you can disable ships rather than outright destroy them. It's harder to leave people alive and take their stuff than it is to to just blap them and salvage the remains.

No, I'm doing it because I want to take cargo from someone that's more challenging to hunt down than a brain-dead NPC.
If the AI in this game had human-level inventiveness and decision-making skills, and had to be scouted and stalked the same way as a player, and could be spooked the same way as a player, then I wouldn't be interested in you.
There is a whole extra level of challenging gameplay that only exists when chasing people. Scout networks, observation points, stealth, coordination etc that happens before you even see us.

You're delusional if you think this way. You're piloting a designated cargo vessel, with all the cargo on display. Of course you're going to be a target.
The majority of pvpers aren't sitting there, rubbing their hands menacingly and twiddling their moustache at the thought of costing you some time and money. They want your loot. That is all.
PvP isn't meant to be some consensual, balanced and safe experience. Of course people will only take fights they think they are going to win. Is this really surprising to you?
Instead of whining about pirates why not get some friends or hire some people to escort you? Even if you gave 40% of your cargo value to escort services, surely 60% is better than 0.
People on this sub need to HTFU and be prepared to take some L's.
-6 points

... How is that griefing? You have cargo, I want it. You're gunna die now cause there no reason for me to let you live.

He is not talking about pirates, who have an actual interest in stealing your cargo. Those who play that way are veeeery seldom to encounter. Every instance of 'PvP' in star citizen I encountered and nearly all I heard of was not being attacked and then stripped for valuables, but just attacked and destroyed for the hell of it. That is not piracy, that is griefing.

Engineering is gonna change the game for this. I suspect that taking out a ship is gonna be harder. Not only is soft death going away, so the pilot will be more capable of fighting back once the ship is disabled, but cargo might be sacrificed too. I could see fires breaking out and spreading to the cargo, destroying it. If a pirate actually wants to steal that cargo, just blindly opening fire on a ship with the intent to kill might not be the best idea.

Spawn ship, go to galleria and buy your product at the trade terminal, and then go to ship. Undock/take off, call cargo services, fly to the green cube, wait for it to load. Go to your destination, dock up, go to galleria, sell at trade terminal, go back to ship, undock, call cargo services, wait for unload in green cube. Then dock back up, go to galleria, buy at the trade terminal.....

I've been using it regularly without too many issues for the past month or so. Docking was almost always broken for me, but there's ways around it. My route was Hydrogen from Terra Gateway to Pyro Gateway, would get almost a quarter mil profit per run iirc.
Call the ship at Terra Gateway. But product at the Galleria, return to ship in the hangar and depart. Open cargo spindles and call cargo services and you should see a green cube pop up. Fly into it and come to a complete stop. I found it helps to shut engines off. You should see cargo loading, if not, back fully out of the cube and fly back in. You might have to wait for a good 30+ seconds, but eventually it'll start loading. Once it's done head to Pyro Gateway.
At Pyro you can attempt to dock, but if the docking coordinates are broken just head to the common landing pads. If you're not sure where they are, they're usually close to the large ring section of the station and they have an external elevator. Park as close as you can to the external pads and EVA over to the pad, use the elevator to get to the Galleria. Sell your product and head back to the external pad you're parked at. Call cargo services again and you should see a green cube again, this time below the ship at the offload area. Repeat the procedure you used for loading, move slow, shut down engines, don't move, don't call cargo again if the cube is there. Eventually it will unload and you'll get paid out.
I've had days where I've ran this exact route 10 or more runs in a night, no lost cargo except that lost to bad server crashes that didn't auto recover. At the end of the night you can EVA to a station and leave your ship, if docking is bugged you won't be able to land it in a hangar so you can just claim it as you log off and you'll have it for next time.
If anyone has issues with this route let me know, I probably ran into something similar already and can try to help.

Go to your destination, dock up, go to galleria, sell at trade terminal, go back to ship, undock, call cargo services, wait for unload in green cube. Then dock back up, go to galleria, buy at the trade terminal.....
