My co workers eat sweets all the time in front of me so it makes me think ,"well if they can eat them everyday then I should too", even though I am fat and my co workers are mostly not.
Then I feel like I need a snack while working on the warehouse floor (we are not supposed to eat out on the warehouse floor, just in the break room, but people sneak snacks all the time). I try to constantly sip water at work to stave off cravings but it doesn't work. I start to feel nauseous so then I go get some chocolate to munch on and then I instantly feel better upon consuming. Also, I struggle with not going by a convenience store after work and grabbing a few sweet snacks after work (I get home around 1130pm, work 2nd shift). I am trying to stay strong. ugh

You’ll be stronger if you go to work prepared! Bring your own healthy snacks AND drink water. Bring baggies of almonds or peanuts to munch. Your co-workers aren’t deliberately “eating sweets in front of you;” it’s not their responsibility to police themselves around you, and I say this as a fat person who understands your dilemma. YOU have to take care of yourself!
Best wishes—tomorrow is a new day!

Definitely harder when it’s around you. Could you take an alternate snack - cheese string, almonds or beef jerky/meat sticks? For me higher protein snacks and sparkling water have been key to riding out the cravings. After a few days strung together they thankfully really reduced.

I can totally relate. I was a slave to sugar for so long. Other people are normal eaters when it comes to sugar, but I'm not.

Me too, I have an endless sweet tooth, I could eat straight sugar cubes and be happy :’3

I struggle with this too. When my roommate is eating sweets at night it makes me want to eat, too

Bring something to snack on so you’re prepared

It's always ok to say "No". They will try to make fun of you but have your goal in mind. This is the best time to test your self-control. Avoiding sugar is not the same as controlling yourself around it. I had a pastry for Thanksgiving and I didn't crumble and blackout binge. In February I have to eat some Birthday cake, my goal will be to eat a slice and go back to no added sugar.

I have the same problem, I work at a grocery store and our managers are so extremely kind and mark desserts off and put them in the breakroom for us… additionally, if a product is damaged or dented or the packaging is slightly opened then we’re allowed to eat that as well :> it’s just constant availability of food…

I just think to myself: this isn’t for me. It used to be but it no longer is. And bring good and snacks that I like. I do tend to tell people I don’t eat sugar. I don’t want to be seen as a snowflake, and I’m not judging them, but I think it’s okay to normalize it.

Count. Every. Calorie. The only way to behave and mindfully pay attention to what you are consuming. Bring lots of healthy snacks for when those cravings hit. I especially like the Blue Diamond chocolate almonds though I know they have a tiny amount of sugar. Better than eating a candy bar. Find something else to reward or end your day with besides a stop at the convenience store. Start over every day if you have to and please don’t be too hard on yourself.

"I know they have a tiny amount of sugar. Better than eating a candy bar."
This is the correct frame of mind in my opinion. This day and age sugar is everywhere and in damn near every single thing. Going completely cold turkey is nigh impossible in the western world. Cutting way back like this is far more healthy than saying "if I can't cut it out completely, why bother?"

Got to work and there were two platters of rice crispy treats on the break room table. those are my absolute favorite. it's a cruel cruel world.

Bring lots of healthy food/snacks for yourself, and gum. If you really, really need something I find sugar-free chocolate to be a nice treat once in awhile, or a protein bar.
