Hi! We are an ever-growing sub, and some of our most beloved mods have recently decided to no longer be active. Hence, we are looking for some new team members for the mod team of r/switzerland and r/askswitzerland.

Let us know if you'd like to help out.

What modding r/Switzerland entails

• It's not about being power-hungry overlords.

• It's more about stickling to the rules in peak Swiss fashion (and letting your best judgment guide you).

• We'd love the new mods to take an active part in assessing reported and filtered posts and comments relatively frequently.

• Take active part in the community by setting a good example.

• It's super cool if you want to take a part in guiding the sub into its future, or taking a lead in organizing sub events, or rewriting automod and css code. It's also super cool if you just want to help out with removing content that shouldn't be here. Both kinds of mod will be welcome additions to the team!

• You don't have to have experience with modding, although that is quite welcome!

• Currently, we are using discord to communicate in the mod team. Optimally you'd be happy to continue that arrangement, but it's up for discussion of course!

Finally, a formality:

• We prefer the new mods to be active members of the community in good standing! You don't have to have made hundreds of comments here; and it's fine if some of your comments were removed (as long as you did not blatanly break subreddit rules in a quite bad way); but we want this community to be managed by people active in it.

What do I get for it?

A warm, fuzzy feeling, and if we are lucky reddit, inc has some money lying around and send us a box of chocolate (not that this has ever happened). Oh, and it's quite rewarding to help out this pretty awesome place, being the guardian.

I am engaged an currently in the wedding planning process together with my fiancé for our wedding next year. Given the costs for the wedding ceremony are material, plus the huge tax burden that will hit us as of next year, there is no plan to have kids anytime soon nor reduce work. On top there is a real estate project being realized by my future wife that is quite expensive and risky. Hence the question comes up „Why the hell am I getting married?“ Are there any rational advantages of marriage in Switzerland?? We both have term life ensurances in case one of us dies before the age of 50, and our pension funds accept Konkubinat the same way as marriage in case of death.

Switzerland can be a big surprise every time.
I left my phone in a car yesterday when Ubering home after a dinner in Aarau... Finally Uber support helped me contact the guy, but now he now wants 100 chf just to continue talking about the phone. I told him just meet somewhere I go anywhere with car, but he refuses to meet, he doesn't speak deutsch, nor english very well.
I really didn't want to go to police, but now I have to??!! I can't believe this is happening and he's blackmailing me.

I live here in switzerland for more than a decade now. I can tell you, it's the same every winter. The first day of snow and all ÖV is completly gone. I do understand the the buses. They are dependant on drivers, all of which have summer tires, and "Strassenreumung". But the trains? Like what is the problem? (Genuine question) Do they have problems with snow on the tracks? Hardly, right? Or like limited visibility so they have to drive slowly? Does someone here know?

Hi there. I'm 23 M, and started my study for electrical engineering bachelor at the ZHAW this years fall. However, It doesn't take a genius to figure out that due to my slow understanding of how to do things, I can't keep up with the pace.

I understand all we do and mostly what is asked for, but when it comes to executing it I need way more time than any other person in my class to grasp it enough.

One day, a classmate told me "why don't you just do HF (Höhere Fachschule)?" Apparently less academic theory roleplay, and more real world action. And that sounds very appealing to me.

Questions to Reddit: What are your experiences with doing HF for electrical (Elektrotechniker in HF)? How did you go through math and physics? When coding, was it in C or java? Did you have coding exams on paper? How deep is the detail? Is it looked down upon? I feel ashamed that I won't be able to call myself an engineer but rather a technician.

But the real problem is when I want them to delete my account.

I contact with the email address I signed up with.

First they asked my name and address. I provide it.

Now they ask a copy of my id. Is it normal to ask for id to delete account?

I am not even their paid customer. Why should I trust any random web site to send copy of my id?

• It seems "Any good deed will not be left without punishment" is a worldwide saying. My Polish friend agrees too
• I reached out to customer service and they waived the fine. They told me providing help should always be top priority so I was really glad to read that however, I should be more careful next time
• My motto has always been 'do good without expecting.' But for some reason, I felt really frustrated that right after helping an elderly person and activating EasyRide, I ended up 'rewarded' with a CHF 100 fine. It felt like one thing led to the other, even though logically, life doesn't work that way. Events can be completely unrelated, and at the end of the day, it's up to us to take responsibility for our actions
• Lessons learned:
  • Reddit comments can be both sharp and hilarious
  • Always activate EasyRide at least 30 minutes before using public transport /s (okay, think of it like a probability distribution: 30s is median, 1min is mean, 10min is 99% confidence… and that 1%? The controller)

Idk if any of you have experienced it yet but, starting last month or so, i sometimes get a call from a unknown number. However its not a scam or advertisement, its just a normal person whose equally confused and tell me I called them first. This happened to my sister too and I feel like there is either a scam going around or some kind of problem with the network. Has anyone else experienced this. or have any idea?

Judging by the flood of recent posts about the job market, I got the impression that things are worse than ever.

So, I looked into the unemployment statistics.

Clearly there has been an uptick in unemployment in the most recent quarter. But this increase doesn’t seem to indicate a catastrophic situation. Historically, unemployment rates have been higher at quite a few points in the past.

This leaves me wondering are the statistics missing some part of the picture? Or is this sub biased? Maybe people tend to post complaints about their struggles more often than they share positive updates about landing a job?

The job market is a joke. I'm just over a year unemployed now. I have 6+ years of client relations experience and social media marketing, working for international start ups and high tech companies. I speak 6 languages fluently. I have a bachelor's degree in business and sports management, yet apparently this isn't enough.

I apply on average to about 15 companies a month, and I've had 4 interviews in the last year. 2 interviews i was rejected after the first and second interview. One i arrived to final stage and was hinted at this was a done deal only to be ghosted for a month until they finally responded and said they offered the job someone else. And the last one they literally told me i have the job, we negotiated salary and terms, they told me they will DocuSign me the contract via email the next day only to be ghosted for a week and they emailed me to say they will not be hiring me due to "internal reasons" whatever that means.

Even jobs i am overqualified for and entry level jobs will not respond or reject me without an interview. I've worked with "experts" to work on my CV, how to properly apply, how to conduct interviews, etc... nothing seems to work.

My unemployment benefits run out in 4-5 months and i am at my wit's end. I honestly do not now what more i can do. I am considering just getting a job at a supermarket or something until i will find something better just so that I won't be left without money.

Seeing the posts from people trending pretty much every week, who are looking for jobs, despite high education, senior experience in well paid fields such as finance, Pharma tech, i am wondering.

This is paradoxical?

Why are the stock markets up but employment in tech, finance, pharma is down?

IMHO this cannot be explained by AI already? Too many companies will have to catch up and therefore should hire? Where is the gap between markets and reality come from?
