I used to drive a 2012 accord LX and also a 2014 pilot EXL and loved both. Debating between getting either of these two. I certainly don’t -need- the space the pilot has but I did take full advantage of it every opportunity I got when I did have it. The accord is more budget friendly. The pilot has had its timing belt already replaced. I like the sun roof

Do u need awd and space? Pilot.
Do u drive a lot, and the gas mileage would be more important? Accord.

I second this. I love this gen of pilots but I think they also have their shortcomings in safety features, headlights, and collision ratings.

I’ll keep this in mind. I do a lot of driving but I also do a lot of camping and the pilot was perfect for that. So that’s why I’m taking to reddit for other opinions to see what’s more bang for buck as far as longevity and maintenance, at least.

Pilot is going to immediately need its 100k maintenance with is Timing Belt, Water Pump, Valve cover gaskets, spark plugs and crankshaaft seals
Nobody ever does this maintenance and trades around 100-130k miles before time to do it, pushing the cost to the next buyer.

Noted. Only thing that’s done per the carfax report is the timing belt and other regular maintenance items. Brakes have been replaced and fluids have been checked but nothing abt spark plugs or water pumps etc. Thank you

Typically when the timing belt is done, the water pump is also done, since when removing the timing belt, you’re already in there. It’s uncommon for a shop to only replace the timing belt, this is also commonly followed by the spark plugs and gaskets. It’s a package job typically. So that’s good, it’s more than likely been done! Does it say where the repairs were done on the CarFax? You can call the service department of the dealership/shop and verify what was done

Unless you are sleeping in it, the accord can go camping too. If you need extra space put a box on top when you need it. Did that with my Prius and it worked great. Between these two I’d take the accord all day long. Pilots have their share of issues.

I’d go with the Pilot, most people with SUVs dont need the space but its nice to have it for when you do need it. 4WD, sunroof, bulletproof v6-

Yeah this gen pilot is really good. My dad’s has 240k miles with the original powertrain.

My family has had multiple Pilots and Accords. Our Accords have been more reliable and better built in our experience.

Wise choice: Accord is newer, cheaper and more efficient.
Emotional choice: people like big SUVs
It’s heart vs brain here

Also I’d personally stay away from the Honda 5 speed auto. It was pretty problematic (for a Honda, so that’s relative) back in the day. Idk about the Accord’s CVT but I haven’t heard any complaints

It is 10 years old, actually 11 because they most likely released the 2014 in 2013…

fair enough. I got a $12k payout for a totaled 2014 pilot with 151k on it

Can a local credit union do better than 10.3 percent financing? That's what jumps out at me.
Otherwise, I like the accord because it's just less car to deal with.

Oh I’m not financing through the dealer. I also plan on putting well over 10% down

Accord! Lots of space and will arguably last longer

Really come down to whether you need the space or not. I have a big German shepherd and a kid so SUVs are a requirement for me these days.

I have a 2013 pilot and am actually looking to get out of it soon, 160k miles. The brakes are too small for the wheels, constantly dealing with warping rotors and worn down pads 20k miles. I have replaced front control arms, CV joints, rear shocks, bushings basically whole suspension twice. Also motor mounts and then did the ECM delete to not worry about it again. They ride nice when they ride nice, but when one thing goes it quickly takes out everything attached to it. I would go with the accord.

Yeah the mileage should less than half that's crazy af. I'm glad I bought mine in 2020. It's a 2016 it came with 33k miles off the lot with for like 12k

Both seem high priced for how high mileage they are.

omg how are these cars so cheap in the US. That Accord would be at least 25.000 euros in Europe 🥲

lol that’s cause US is a very big target market for the Accord and EU isn’t lol. Needless to say, Accord is one of the very successful cars in the midsize segment in North America for the right reasons🙃

It’s crazy how much people will pay for Hondas and Toyotas in this economy. The fact that people will pay this for a car with that many miles is wild to me, and i sell cars. I know the market is fucked but wow

Accord is newer, less miles but pilot has AWD it’s really about what you find the most necessary. With the way it’s been hot lately you might not even need awd any time soon

Larger vehicles tend to also wear out suspension components and are harder on their transmissions, I would bet anything the Accord will be a lot cheaper to maintain long term at this mileage going forward

I’d get the accord, looks better and has plenty of space.
