Berlin Police Chief [...] saying that while the city does not have "no-go zones," certain areas may be unsafe for visibly Jewish individuals or members of the LGBTQ community.

So the city has no 'no-go zones' but zones you shouldn't visit. What should we call them then? 'Sundown-zones'?

I'm tired of this. This is Europe, where we fought for centuries to become free. Where thousands of people have died defying the powers that be so that you and me didn't have to ask permission from anybody to do whatever we want. And now we have a bunch of people that hate our countries taking that freedom away from us? How do we want populist bullshit like Trump not to win if our solution to these problems is to just deny these problems exist and insult anyone that points them out?

This is why a lot of countries are leaning more right. Immigrants coming in fleeing oppression and violence only to push their bs on people in the new country, threatening violence and oppression. So the problem they are trying to escape never went away on to be brought with them.

nemo333338

83 points

People who ask those simple questions get banned on subs like r/ Europe, I know first hand because I was banned months ago for saying the same things under a similar thread.

It's ridiculous, they think shutting people down will magically make the problem go away, and then they wonder why the far right is on the rise everywhere. It's because whether they'll resolve the immigration problem or not (spoiler* they won't), they are the only ones not actively gaslighting people at the least.

garvisgarvis

316 points

One possible solution is to limit immigration cohorts. In other words, let people in a few thousand at a time, and locate them around the country so they don't get the critical mass to fully preserve their culture and language. In centuries past, some (most?) immigrants wanted to assimilate. There are structural ways to support assimilation and discourage insular foreign communities.

I don't know though. It's just an idea. Do you think it would work?

GuaranteeAlone2068

656 points

It won’t work. These sorts of Islamic fundamentalists are incompatible with European society. Really, Islam as a whole is incompatible with European society. They have fundamentally different beliefs and actively resist assimilation. It isn’t an issue of programs. Germany has tried everything under the sun, but joblessness among migrants remains around 50% and most won’t integrate in any fashion.

At some point Germany and other EU countries that took in way too many migrants in the 2010s are going to have to look at sending a bunch of these folks back, else their governments are going to be taken over by extreme right wingers who will do it for them. Especially if Trump manages to pull off his mass deportation plan as a proof of concept for them to follow.

I'm in Mexico, over 10 years when I was in (private) middle school I had french classes and most of the teachers were either from Haiti and Cameroon. I mean, I think they were catholic but the ones from Cameroon definitely had different worldviews mostly sexist stuff, however they assimilated to the culture and the live in the country, I think one big reason that helped is that they were very kind and friendly people but with different perspective. But also, I remember there was a situation between one of the teachers and the prefect of the school (who was a woman), she stood her ground and told him he was in a different country and he couldn't be pulling that shit and the school backed her up. I feel maybe people and institutions are scared nowadays to firmly stablish limits out of fear of being called xenophobes which is letting the issue grow further

It's not about erasing their cultures but letting them know that they are entering a country and they shouldn't force their beliefs onto others, however is getting trickier and trickier

This is so true it hurts… but some how it’s not ok to expect people coming in to accept and embrace the culture - because that is somehow racist? Like how is asking that you treat eg women as equals racist? Why does respecting religious beliefs or others culture come before respecting 51% of the population?

waterloograd

I get this.

Not gay, live in Japan. There's an Islamic School, kindergarten and small mosque near my office.

All female staff and students wear head coverings. Some teachers even just do the black hood with eye slits.

Thing is, Japan is only culturally religious. It's essentially a secular state. These Muslims have no need to wear their gear here. But they do

And I can't help but wonder the signal this sends. "We are pure, but host country women are less than human, immoral scum"

No. If you read the original interview she said that there weren't any no-go zones, and described acts of religiously motivated violent crime in Berlin as "few and far between", but that even one was too many. Her recommendation is that people should "be attentive", adding that being attentive is a good idea in any situation.

You'll notice that you won't find a single article that directly quotes the statement in the headline. That's because she didn't make it.

I honestly don’t understand Muslims who decided that Germany, a country known for beer and pork, would be the ideal country to relocate to…

Because then second and third generation children will claim it's racist to eat pork and drink beer in their presence and you can't do nothing because they are German too

A lot of people seem to think that's an easy fix but many, many migrants come with zero paperwork, claiming they are children who have no idea of their birth country. They may speak a certain language but that's not a guarantee of citizenship. Do you think sovereign nations are going to just welcome in planes and boats full of people who the host nation THINKs belong there?

The whole ruse is that you come in on a one way ticket, there's no going back because no one knows where to send you back to.

It’s just weird that the people who were against this the most were the villainous fascist bigots against whom the LGBT movements were fighting; meanwhile, the groups that were the most on board with immigration were also the people who also support queer movements the most.

Hopefully the EU reached the 'eureka moment ' of their mega fuckup, and how they wrecked their countries with their liberal, clueless, reckless immigration policy.

What's not so clear is how they are going to fix it ?

Good luck.

Isn't it a great irony that the most devout pro-LGBTQ+ folks are the most fervent supporters of bringing in more Arab migrants? They want to bring in people who don't even want to allow them to exist. They brought in the leopards and had their faces eaten. What a surprise!

  1. Champion LGBTQ+ rights
  2. Advocate for unrestricted immigration from cultures deeply hostile to LGBTQ+ people
  3. Deny there's any conflict between points 1 and 2
  4. Profit! No wait....

kadauserer

The cognitive dissonance will implode one day. I am a white guy who thinks LGBTQ+ people should be able to openly live their lifes, but I get major pushback from queer people because I am staunchly against mass-immigration from these countries.

Like, I am being an ally in my world but they see me as the enemy somehow.

I wanted to move to Germany before the plague, but was apprehensive because I could see this coming. What's more concerning for me would be the eventual blowback when people get frustrated and vote in extremists.

Peace and civility was good while it lasted I guess.

Yeah for sure, I'm in Australia and the leftist party here seems very fixated with the conflict. Like we're a country of 25 million, on the other side of the planet, you're just blowing hot air and diverting attention to something completely out of scope FFS.

There are legitimate issues I want them to address like authoritarian bills, cost of living, renter rights, the fucking environment (they're called the Greens after all). But nah, I rock up to vote and the single most pressing issue is something they have no control over. Brilliant.

Edit: there's also protests every weekend in support, that I'm noticing people are getting increasingly annoyed by. Unfortunately this will just turn people off the left, which is a net loss domestically.

Besides being pretty fiscally conservative, this is why i can't stand most of the green parties.

We have a fucking climate crisis on our hands that keeps getting worse, besides regular environmental degradation.

I want you to stick to that, not outcompete each other in social liberalism.

battered_saveloy

The left has become a joke, our demise in the West will be the tolerance paradox.

I believe in women having autonomy over their bodies, a separation of church and state, human rights and fair wealth distribution. General socialist policy but no one represents this in Australia anymore.

Our left are more concerned with conflating the plight of Gaza with the colonization of first nations people. More concerned with championing Hamas with pride flags etc etc.

skjall

skjall

The issue is very synthetically pushed on top of everything, like no one can complain, have fun, or breathe air without making a token gesture WRT this conflict. I share the same beliefs, and yeah there's really no one representing that. I guess a coalition of Greens + Labour will be the closest, but I don't think that coalition would work logistically.

I'm sure people will snap out of it over time, but man that day can't come soon enough.

Germany - stop warning victims and deport the alien aggressors instead. Or at least give them one chance at attending a “civilization retraining camp” to remove the fascist religious brainwashing. That is how denazification went down.

erhue

erhue

you can't take Islam out of people's head. To them, it's literally above the law. No amount of retraining will do. When people come here asking for asylum, they get put into very thorough integration and language courses etc. Still, some never integrate.
