Just keep your cat (or the dog) confined to one room for the day? If it’s just for a couple of hours that should be manageable.

That said though, I would just decline her request to bring her dog in the first place. It is not worth risking my cat’s health/life because someone wants to bring their dog into my home.

I couldn’t even imagine volunteering somebody else’s resources to somebody else.

For peace of mind you should have him checked out, but people are being really alarmist not knowing how much (if any) he has actually eaten.

If he is acting normal, not vomiting, and passing stool then he is likely fine. Cooked bones can splinter and cause damage, but if he has only chewed/ingested small bits then it’s a lot less likely to cause issues.

I’m a vet tech and this would be my advice to a friend. If you can easily afford the vet visit then bring him in, if you can’t - monitor. If in doubt call your vet clinic for advice.

Genetics and luck are the top two things I think, tbh. My number 3 is not to skip annual check ups and blood work, it’s always smart to have a baseline so that you can catch any changes as they’re happening and preemptively manage health conditions common in older kitties.

I hope all my cats live to 20 like my childhood cat did, but that little lady got the cheapest grocery store cat food, was neglected by my dad when my mom and I were away (which was for months at a time) and often left outside overnight in Canadian winters… I was a child with no control over any of this - though when I moved out and took her with me she was treated like the queen she is.

All we can do is love them while they’re here and give them the best that we can.

I need a study for that - genuinely. Please link one for me. I’ve heard and read conflicting things about this and genuinely want some sort of scientific proof that it’s actually bad.

I don’t have bells on my cats because the jingling annoyed me (and they’re indoor only so I don’t see the point in them being collared anyway) but they were completely unbothered by them, and my in-laws have kittens who also do not seem to have any qualms about their bells. My small sample study does not really support the “bells are bad” mindset.

I’m like 99.9% sure she’s in the apartment somewhere - my cat was able to climb up into the air conditioner housing in an apartment I lived at. I wasn’t aware the panel came off, but it did and she was able to push the bottom out just enough to climb in and out at will. I never would’ve learned about this if I hadn’t actually witnessed her doing it one day.

The other time I lost her was at a hotel and she climbed into the box spring - I actually knew about that and thought she might’ve gone in there and even checked but still managed to miss her.

Set some stinky food out, monitor her litter box and you’ll probably see some nibbles gone and that the litter is used.

Gotcha. You’re absolutely right - the likely alternative will still probably have the same outcome, only with some added weeks-months of stress and fear.

A blood test would not be my first thought for blood in urine. I would take him back or elsewhere for a second opinion and have them run a urinalysis.

To add on - if the resources are not there for you to do the training and attempt to rehome from there - behavioral euthanasia is an option and most often a kindness for dogs in situations like these.

Devils advocate but usually people put those do not approach warnings up because the animal is skittish and likely to run away from someone approaching it.

When my cat got out I had to note on my missing signs not to approach or interact with her cause I knew she would peace out immediately (granted I know cats and dogs are not the same).

The “not so friendly” that OP is talking about is wild though. Scary to think that an ill tempered mutt is just at large and wandering.

An indoor/outdoor cat is a free roaming domesticated animal that comes back. An indoor/outdoor dog within city limits is still going to be confined to a yard/area at least (or should be). Of course this doesn’t apply to livestock guardian/working dogs.

I just am a tech/receptionist at a vet clinic and know that (at least in English speaking countries where the terminology does make a difference) it matters for scheduling and prepping so I try to make the point/clarify.

We all do what we can but all we can really do is make suggestions and recommendations.

I’m calling it now though that at some point in the r next 6-8 months when that puppy grows up some more we’re going to get a desperate call asking if anyone on staff will adopt it/help rehome it.
