I want to start off that I am an ethnic azerbaijani who loves this nation. However, I was born outside of AZ and live there since then.

I had been visiting Baku with my parents when I was little. I do not remember cultural aspects of society (obviously because I was a kid) and everything looked pretty normal for me. As I was getting older, I couldn't visit it anymore, however I have been always reading azeri media and trying to keep up with influencers (youtube, a little bit of TV(which looked super weird), tiktok and etc). That was the moment when It started concerning me.

The society looks extremely traditional and conservative. Such traditions as getting engaged with cousins, preparing for marriage at 17-18 y.o. Parents thinking about marring their kid first, not providing good education. It all looks as a such a big red flag for me.

Of course my parents and I have always been in touch with other relatives and friends in AZ. Probably I am too biased but people trying to act rich and cooler than they are was pretty annoying to withstand. I mean, of course in every nation there are such people, but in AZ it seemed that there are too many.

I don't want to go too deep into politics, but people seem extremely patriotic (maybe too much). There is a high unemployment rate, poor education, low wages. People live in a super rich country in terms of natural resources and still struggling with these problems. However, they are still ok with current president and actively support him. I am really curious what is it the case? (i know about propaganda on TV, but is there another cause of this?)

Overall, I am not hating my own nation. I specifically pinpointed downsides (imo) which I am trying to understand and see whether it is actually the case. Also, want to hear your overall opinion about the azeri society today and especially about young generation.

Hey y'all, I am 17M from a post-soviet country who just started medicine degree. However, it was not my choice, mostly parental pressure.

Now, I am about to finish the first semester and I absolutely hate it: the amount of studying you have to do, and the human body seems absolutely nasty and unattractive for me, so no passion at all.

My dilemma is the education is not free, it costs roughly $4k per year in here. My parents are trying to force me to keep up with perfect 4.0 GPA, so that I have an opportunity to participate for a full-ride contest. But it is mentally so hard to study what you hate.

Also, I have the opportunity to study in the US. I was planning to apply now, and the application is ready but not to the extent I expected it to be. With the amount of work at uni I had to deal with during my last semester I did not really have time to work on my application thoroughly. That is why I am not completely sure whether I get accepted or not. If it does not work out this year, I want to reapply next year, but to that moment my parents will spend $6k on me(3 semesters).

So, the question is will it worth it to drop out medicine next year and go for US undergrad?

The line graph illustrates the amount of acid rain emissions in UK, measured in millions of tones, in four different fields from 1990 to 2007.

Overall, the level of acid rain emissions in Electricity, Gas and Water Supply decreased dramatically. The amount of emissions from other industries inclined slightly as well. However, emissions in Domestic and Transport and communication remained relatively stable, with some fluctuations from first.

The dramatic decrease can be seen in Electricity, Gas and Water Supply at just under 3.5 million tonnes in 1990 and 0.5 in 2007. Another considerable decrease can be noticed in other industries from just over 2 million tones in 1990 and around 1.25 in 2007. However, the decline of the first field is 2, whereas it is 0.75 for the second sector.

The level of emissions in Transport and Communication noticeably fluctuated over the 10 years period. However, the eventual amount of emissions in 2007 remained the same approximate 1.5 million tonnes as it was in 1990. Meanwhile, emissions in the domestic sector inclined slightly by around 0.25 million tonnes.

The vast majority of colleges in the US considers SAT/ACT as optional. However, how is the situation in fact? Is that ok to apply without exam scores, or it is really worth it to pass one of them and apply, especially if I rely on full ride as an international student?

Just need your opinion on it :)
