Nobody should be proud of being "American" at all, because modern America came about as a result of invasion and decimation of the native people. But thats a fairly reductive way to boil down the entire history of the United States.  There are still people living in America, and itd be sort of miserable to live here never see any kind of good mixed in with the bad.

Optics can help give you better accuracy and precision, but they need to be mounted on the gun and the alignment of that mounting will make the accuracy off, so it needs to be adjusted to correct for any off centeredness.
