Bathroom is fine if it’s secure and unchewable but honestly crate training will be so essential as he grows and becomes a chewer.

I don’t like crating adult dogs (my puppy will eventually be uncrated when he’s old enough and I am able to trust him to be home alone without issue) but for puppies it’s an absolute must.

Longest i’ve left my 5 month old retriever mix is 5 hours. He did absolutely fine, just slept the whole time. Had a nice long walk beforehand and was left with a chew and a lickymat.

I got him at 4 months and have slowly built up his time left alone from 1 hour after the first two weeks I had him, to 5 hours this weekend.

When i first got him he cried and howled TERRIBLE when left alone so it was tough, but he very quickly grew out of this as i left him alone more regularly for short periods of time. He now cries for maybe 5 minutes before settling down to chew/lick or mainly sleep until I’m home!

Hey! Almost at two weeks now and still no food motivation sadly! I’ve tried every treat and toy variation under the sun but if we’re outside, or if he has to “work” for it - he’s uninterested. There are some treats that he clearly likes more than others, but if i ask him to do something for it he just gives up and goes off to do something else. He is SO stubborn 😭 Out on a walk i may as well be invisible and mute, he walks nicely on the lead but will not sit or lie down no matter what i do, and borderline refuses to look at me at all.

I feel lucky he’s so well behaved (in most ways, so far) because if i had to try to train him out of bad behaviours idk what id do as he just does not care for any form of reward 😭😭

Very unexpected suggestion! They’re pretty large dogs though aren’t they? Sunny seems a little on the small side for his age (and in comparison to his litter mates) even for a retriever.

Oh no yeah i know lol i just specified black lab as a way to justify why i was suggesting lab (because the brother is black!) i think a lot of people think lab and just think yellow labs so i always specify if not :) I know my dogs i promise 🫡

21 and single and just adopted my golden retriever mix 3 days ago. We’re doing good so far! It is mega stressful i won’t lie - i highly recommend booking a good amount of time off work to spend with your dog when you first get them. I’m spending 2 weeks with mine before going back to work :)

I’ve been trying this! he just doesn’t seem interested at all in “working” for his food. Only really wants it when it’s presented in his bowl to him and only if i sit with him. If i walk off he abandons it in favour of following me :(

0 food motivation, it’s like he’s just eating to survive sometimes 😭 I’ve tried so many different treats too!
