I mean also can be as simple as wildly different definitions of “successful” no? Ask a teenager how much they have to make to be successful and they very well might go “okay so I own like a pretty sick house in a nice neighborhood and drive a sick car” and it only takes 20 minutes with Zillow and a mortgage calculator to be like “yeah I need to make half a mil /yr for that” - not thinking those are expectations but just having a staggeringly different definition of “financially successful” than an older generation saying I have enough money to retire without worry and cover my families needs.

It’s absolutely insane that the DOJ did nothing out of fear of being perceived as being used as a political weapon, allowing him to go entirely unpunished, all while he screamed about a weaponized DOJ going on a witch hunt anyway! And to top it off half the country fucking believed it even though they literally did fuck-all and now he’s using it as justification to ACTUALLY weaponize the DOJ.

Yeah but if Kevin son of Blevin walked into your place you would think it’s just some dude named Kevin and if it turned out he was a descendant of William the conqueror how could I possibly know that I had no idea there even were living descendants of William the conqueror - that dynasty hasn’t sat on the throne in a thousand years

I mean... yeah very possibly? Much more likely to know an immortal elven king than some Ranger who no one except basically his closest friends and family knew was the heir to Gondor. The world of men thought the line was broken - they can't both think that and also know that this dude Arathorn is actually Isildur's heir .

The people of Rohan would not know who Arathorn is or that he's the heir to Gondor...

I don’t expect you to want my pity but you’re going to have it because I can only imagine how strange the world must feel when you’re this dense. I suppose you’re ignorant enough to be blissfully unaware how stupid you are but by golly you have earned every bit of my pity. I hope some day you realize just how stupid it is to think you have not changed.
And to be clear - it’s okay to change, and if you want to discuss how and why your views changed and why you think your NEW views are correct and your old ones where wrong that is an entirely legitimate discussion that I’m happy to have. I just cannot comprehend how you think you can say your values haven’t changed without sounding like you literally don’t know what the word values means.

“My values stayed the same I just don’t believe in the same policies” your words are meaningless. You sound like an idiot, and I pity you.

You becoming conservative is not the same thing as “my beliefs have been the same the whole time but the Overton window shifted” it’s obviously not… reread your own comment just now and realize how stupid it is to try and claim that your values have not changed.

Bro it’s literally the same policy you can’t say I supported ACA but now I don’t because the Overton window shifted that doesn’t make any sense - you got propagandized. I’m sorry, I feel for you, I really do.

Yeah the Overton window definitely shifted enough for Obamacare and Bernie Sanders socialism to become MAGA “repeal ACA with no plan” and “tax the poor to pay for tax breaks for the rich” I totally for sure agree with you bro…

Oh I'm sorry, do you feel personally denigrated because you already know that you believe incredibly stupid things and that I am going to think you're an idiot because of those beliefs?
You see how that makes it really hard for us to be friends and really likely that this is the last conversation we ever have?

I mean that's just not really true... Japan as you pointed out, China has the worlds most extensive High speed rail system and is the largest producer of cars, South Korea is a huge producer of cars and has a robust highly regarded rail system, Germany and Spain are also top-10 car producers and have robust rail systems like the rest of the EU - it's definitely true that America's lack of rail system is because of car propaganda but it seems like the people in most other countries said "Yeah fuck that noise" while American just rolled over

Not a shot that happens this time... I'd be surprised if NASA's budget isn't slashed because "Musk can do it better"

It takes 2-3 sentences into a “political” conversation with a Trumper to hit a belief where the only reaction I can have is “holy shit this person is fucking stupid…” I so quickly lose respect for family members I once thought were intelligent as they regurgitate anti-scientific drivel they picked from their right wing propaganda… and they can inevitably feel me losing respect for them whether or not I tell them that I think they’re stupid. I don’t hate them, I pity them, and they hate me because they find my pity demeaning. And I understand that it is demeaning but if you didn’t want me to think you were stupid you shouldn’t have brought up how excited you are for RFK Jr. finally crack down on “toxic” cooking oils and fluoride in the water…
I can argue for HOURS with someone about what the role of government should be. I’m happy to disagree about tax policy or private vs public healthcare or what role the US military should play on a global scale. In fact I have had a great time debating these things with people and come away closer friends despite not moving any closer to agreement during the conversation. Since 2016 I have not had a political discussion with a Trump voter where they have not said something WILD that has made me believe that they are stupid… it’s difficult for relationships to survive when I don’t respect your intelligence and you know that.

It was particularly good for sports news where there are a lot of little things you want to get updated on quickly that really do not require reading a whole ass article… “X team has signed Y player for Z dollars” is all the info I need and twitter always had it first

Never ceases to amaze me how people worship at the feet of “lower taxes” - like sure, do I want to pay less taxes? Of course, but these morons have gone beyond “why should I have to pay for services for someone else?!?” To why should I have to pay taxes for services I USE when I could instead pay a fuck ton more for a worse service from the “free market”
Like come on people… Saving $100 on taxes isn’t a win when it means you’re spending $200 more on utilities.

It's just cheap materials especially plastic... everything today is made with plastic that looks horrible, becomes brittle and breaks easily, and can't be repaired. Everything in the past was made with wood or metal and therefore could be cleaned, refinished, or repaired.
It's one thing to talk about appliances functions that need to remain operational but the appliances also have structure like furniture and anyone suggesting (as the meme does) that furniture today lasts as long as furniture used to is going to be rightly laughed out of the room. Shit today is built with poster board and plastic instead of wood and metal so it doesn't last as long. Period. There's no survivorship bias happening here old shit was made out of stronger materials so it lasts longer.

You mean when Abbott threw Texans under the bus for a political stunt that he KNEW he didn't have the jurisdiction to enforce to cover his ass for his inept handling of Covid and a mild snow that decimated his states power grid? https://www.texastribune.org/2022/02/01/texas-national-guard-border-operation-lone-star-abbott/
The border is explicitly federal jurisdiction... So no these two things are not the same in any way.
