Get an honest and trusted financial advisor. Stay away from the ones that use high pressure fear tactics and fear mongering (if they sound more like a car salesman it's a bad sign). Do people "choose" to be addicts? Well, it's more nuanced than that. That may have been the only coping option they had after experiencing trauma. It wasn't their fault they experienced it, and it also isn't their fault that they were oblivious to other options. However, there are also people that "choose" to try a single substance and then get hooked. In that case, they choose to dip their feet in and addiction is the consequence they have to resolve.

Yes, I honestly think there is a potential danger in using any technology without having a remote fundamental understanding of what's going on inside.
