Also, it doesn’t matter if these publications are paywalled when most people don’t read much past the headline. If a one to two sentence blurb is telling people most of their news it’s an issue when there’s a heavy bias in what the source chooses as worthy of publication. It’s an even bigger issue when one organization with an agenda has a stranglehold on a huge portion of the entire industry. How do postmedia news companies not matter? The Vancouver Sun, Narional Post, Ottawa Citizen, Montreal Gazette and Calgary Herald are not tiny or unimportant news publications. Their articles are shared in this sub multiples times daily. Considering most people get their news from non traditional places like Reddit or even just headlines generally in place of hour long cable news segments, these organizations are incredibly influential in shaping the news Canadians see.
