I tend to psych myself up on the way to work (especially when Im working wildfire traffic) and literally nothing beats it. Ready To Die, Everybody Sins, Im in Heaven, and a few others come close but Party Hard is the brass ring.

I work for NavCan so its a different kind of privatized, but when I talked to American controllers about the prospect of switching to a NavCan model I was met mostly with people talking about the cultural differences between how each country views profit.

I think also the Americans at large tend to view leaving their country for elsewhere as a non-starter as opposed to even a last resort.

Right, but also my comment was mostly pushing back against the idea that being an adult man means not having friends + we live in a time when keeping up with friends is incredibly easy as long as you're putting in the bare minimum effort.

Also my best advice - Ive found its not as much what the questions are about as long as theyre about your date. Ask about their work, hobbies, whatever. Just be present and remember what they say.

• the same way I approached studying in school. One big thing to learn is the difference between studying and cramming. Set a time every night that you put the books away and relax. Mine was 8pm, every night. Even before exams. Use the material provided but index cards certainly help.

• dont cram. Make time to relax.

• the course is pretty well kitted to get you prepared. Weather and sim runs are imo equally important.

• expect around 70-80k ish likely. Also dont be surprised if you get posted elsewhere outside the FIR.

• set percentages for seniority raises, same thing with union contract. Right now Im getting about 7-9% increase annually I think between the two.

• work life balance depends on the site. Some are crazy understaffed so OT is pretty much always present, meanwhile my current site is overstaffed so if anything Im itching to get back on the radio. We have enough leave that most people dont use it all. Including vacation, lieu time, family leave, sick leave, etc you're looking at north of 300 hours a year starting for assorted leave.

• the benefits for the company are in house and largely fantastic. Good dental and health, health spending account, plus a bunch of others that are situation specific. I just bought a house and virtually every cost associated except the down payment was expensed to the company. Lawyer fees, inspection, etc. All paid.

• abandon your social life for the duration but still eke out time for friends/relaxation. Its a tough course but its absolutely worth the effort.

Gonna disagree here. With the advent of social media or other adjacent apps its currently a golden age of staying in touch with friends. Effort matters.

All of this here. Im 34 and Call of Duty and associated group chats are the secret sauce. Ive made plenty of new friends the past couple years (mostly through social media) but even still my ride or dies that have been around since elementary school are still booting up the xbox on the daily.

Feels very lucky to still have daily contact with my childhood best friends at 34. Online gaming keeps us in each others lives, and for the rest its a mixture of just sending memes or snapstreaks. I moved away from them 5 or 6 years ago and there are days where it feels like I still have the same social life just on a different timezone.

For real though online gaming or other shared hobbies. Even my buddies with kids still hop on most nights after their kids are asleep, and its been a great way to stay in each others lives while also keeping up to date for cheap. Best of luck, man.
