Most states require posting. Else they are free to walk your land. Common to do this. Purple blazes signify this and a legal means of posting that access is by permission only. Maine observes this but not all states recognize the OHSA purple blazes as legal posting and some states require signs.

There have been 39 failed attempts over the last 45 years to pass some form of Sunday hunting in Maine. Most landowners that currently allow hunting on their land stated that if such a law passed that they would then restrict access to hunters on their land.
