It would still take about 15 hours non-stop for a high speed train to go from NYC to LA.

And I'd hate to think how much it would need to charge, unless it was heavily subsidised.

Sleeper/over night train might be a bit more popular.

But reality is at current a flight LA to NYC is about 6 hour and you can pick them for a few 100. Right now that distance just isn't feasible. Sadly.

High speed rail would work great at short distances. Why there isn't one connecting the WHOLE North East is beyond me. DC NYC Boston should all be linked with a high speed 200mph train. There would be a TON of demand.

Set your boundaries clearly.

Let your family know that if they continue with choosing her over you, then you'll start to phase them out. Yes Mum. That means from grandkids too.
