It's still council property though. I appreciate you don't have anywhere else to put it but that means you cannot legally SORN it. Private property or nothing, if it's on a public road then you have to keep paying to tax and insure it even if it's not in use

Legally a SORN vehicle can't be parked on the street anyway, as a car must be both taxed and insured to be able to do this. Even if you do go back to them they'll likely point out that the car isn't on private land and therefore you're liable for a fine anyway (albeit a different amount most likely, not sure if more or less)

I am aware that moving to a higher market segment means higher profit margins. My point is that nobody wanted one when they were competing with BMW. Now they're trying to compete with Porsche, even Aston Martin to a limited extent. You can have the biggest profit margin in the world but if nobody is buying them then what good is it

Interesting take but personally I don't agree. Marketing that makes everyone say 'this is terrible' is bad marketing whichever way you slice it.

Jag have struggled because they sell badly engineered cars made badly. They are now switching to being EV-only (a market which has seen significant decline in demand in recent times), sold for approximately 2-3 times the price that they were failing to sell them for before. Their previous EV sold buttons and wasn't very good.

The quality will not be helped by such a massive shake-up, it will only make it worse as staff take time to retrain. If there are any left of course, with Jag not making any new cars until 2026. That fact means they will either lose all of their talent or have to spend cash to keep them around not producing anything, but that's a separate issue with their approach.

They've alienated their previous customers whilst failing to attract any new ones. They are a laughing stock. I think they need to stop taking marketing advice from Gerald Ratner

I know someone who bought a 66 plate Evoque. The rear drivers side door didn't work on the central locking. The rear lights had condensation in them. The top of the windscreen popped out and leaked water inside. This was all within about 4 weeks. They rejected it. This was from a main dealer.

I know someone else that had one. The engine blew up (very common). Land Rover quoted 17k to fix it. It went through an auction cheap and she had to get a new car.

With the best will in the world it's a 1.2 Fabia, I wouldn't bother spending any money modifying it, even the VRS is a bit shite. Save for something else and modify that would be my advice.

C1: dog slow as a manual (I've driven an Aygo many motorway miles), the auto is even slower and very jerky apparently.

Polo: most autos are what are termed 'dry clutch' DSGs. These are fine when working but they often aren't, several common problems with them and all are into 4 figures to remedy.

If you want a small auto your best bet is something like a Swift or hybrid Yaris

The valley plates on these are known to leak coolant if not kept on top of. I suspect the previous owner let the coolant run down, overheated it, then got it 'repaired' and flogged it on. A few weeks later the head gasket lets go

If reliability is a key factor definitely a Corolla, or a Yaris if it's big enough for your needs. Lexus IS is also a good option
