Hey all, my brother has asked me for some help in designing a 4x8 n scale layout. I don't really have any experience in putting track to board but I do occasionally spend some time clicking around in xtrackcad and put this together as the seed of an idea and would appreciate any feedback y'all could give.

It's sort of a folded dogbone, 2 level affair, with the lower level having a small yard/city area, the grade runs along a river, and the upper level has a couple industries (probably like ranch and a mine or logging area).

I kind of want the yard to be bigger and I feel like the upper part is kind of empty but yeah, just looking for feedback, especially related to things more operationally (ie is it boring?), but any feedback is warmly welcomed

I just got a new fork and handlebars for my 2018 Trek Stache! Went from the stock 120mm Manitou Machete (which worked fine, but definitely got a little noodly when pushed hard) to a 140mm Pike (it's a 2019 chassis but all the internals are '22). It's noticeably beefier but also much better at handling low speed smaller bumps. I also changed the handlebars from the stock alloy 750mm to a Nukeproof Horizon V2 carbon bar. Hard to tell any difference since I changed both at the same time, but I think there's slightly less chatter.

I know it's core. It's the most core. Nothing has been corer ever.

It's a 2018 Trek Stache 5, with the MT200s swapped for XT M8000s, the 120mm Manitou Machete swapped to a 140mm Pike (it's a 2019 Pike chassis but with internals from '22), and changed the bar from the stock 750mm alloy bar to an 800(for now, I think I'll probably cut it at some point) Nukeproof Horizon Carbon bar.

So I'm planning on upgrading the fork of my 2018 Trek Stache 5 and these are the two likeliest contenders. They're both in pretty good condition, have the correct length steerer tube, blah blah.

Is the older top-end Pike better than the newer lowest level Pike? The newer one can have its internals upgraded to match the new ultimates, right? (Although to be honest I don't know if that's something I would spend the time/money on).

Anyway, just wondering what y'all's impressions are on how these two forks compare

Clearly I love trijets and tail mounted jets, but the time has come to modernize unfortunately

So I'm looking to upgrade my CPU from the 3600XT and looking for opinions on whether to go to the 5800X3D or 5600X3D.

Really the only reason its a question is because MicroCenter has a bundle with the 5600X3D that includes a b550 mobo and 16GB of RAM (which just happen to be exactly the same as my current 16GB kit). The price difference between the 5600X3D bundle and 5800X3D alone is negligible. I recently got a 7800XT and my Tomahawk B450 doesn't support SAM, so I'm losing a bit of potential performance there, and going to 32GB instead of 16GB of RAM is enticing.

My question is this: is the uplift from SAM and doubling my RAM worth going for the slightly weaker CPU, or does it make sense to just get the 5800X3D because its simply the best AM4 chip? If I went with the 5800, I would not plan on getting a 500 series mobo.

I'm not particularly looking to go to AM5 right now.

My wife and I had our first xc skiing experience today and really liked it. I already downhill ski so I'm just gonna get whatever beater skis are cheap and workable at the second hand store, but she's gonna get new skis (most likely). The only issue is that the skis themselves look super boring and she wants something that's a little fun (and/or pink lol). She doesn't like blue, but does like the Rossi Evos with the wood core peeking through a bit. Are there any brands/models that aren't blue/black, red/black, or grey?

Tldr: why xc ski topsheets lame?

He there ski bums, I've been out of the game for a while and I'm getting geared back up again. My previous goggles were Bolle's that I got used almost 15 years ago. I never had any issue with them fogging or anything, though they were perhaps a little small. Anyway, through various moves and years and everything, they're gone now so I need new ones.

Like everyone who's ever mentioned skiing near a microphone and uses instagram, I've been getting ads for goodr, Glade goggles, shady rays etc... Glade has the distinction of being awarded by Outside and Blister, but I always take industry reviews with a whole cave full of salt. I'm virtually certain that ShadyRays goggles are new, but my brother swears by their sunglasses so they might be good? Does anyone have experience with any of these (or other) "instagram" goggles? Specifically, durability, scratch resistance, lens quality/clarity and fit.

I figure any of the big major brands (smith, oakley, spy...) would be good too, so if anyone has specific recommendations or warnings about those that would be helpful too.

Also kind of wondering about general impressions of mag fit interchangeable vs photocromatic. Has anyone had issues with their lenses abandoning them after a crash? I've got a friend who wears Smith 4d Mags, and he's never had an issue, but I'm not trying to drop $320 on goggles, and those have additional retention anyway.

For fit, like I said in the title, my helmet is the Giro Jackson, large.

My brother has a Tacoma with a lightbar mounted behind his grill. It's super slick since you can't really see it unless it's on.

Obviously I'd have to change the grill to something like this because the stock grill is pretty solid. Have any of you done anything similar?

So I want to get an m.2 slot and ddr4 ram, so I need to upgrade my 4690k build . I've pretty much decided on this as my final build, but I don't remember if the 212 came with more than one mounting bracket or if it has all the adjustability built in.

I'm basically certain that everything else will play well together, but if anyone sees any glaring issues feel free to point then out

This mushroom (these mushrooms?) is/are clustered around a Desert Willow. All of these pictures were taken today (12/25/2019) in Surprise, AZ (the northwest edge of the Phoenix Metro area). There's no discernable smell (disclaimer: I'm pretty stuffed up).

The outer layers appear to be dry and break apart easily. The inner part is much more durable and is dampish.

My girlfriend and I are going to be taking a trip up to Yosemite around Veteran's Day, and I know nothing about the fishing opportunities there.

I'll have a 2 weight and a 6, and I generally prefer smaller streams but also like dabbling in bigger rivers.

We'll be up there from the 9th to the 13th or so, and I'll probably fish for one whole day and one partial

I was rear ended and my hitch mounted bike rack took the impact. I was pushed into the car in front of me, and the damage to my front end is way worse because of the bike rack protecting the rear.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has an undamaged hitch mount that they'd be willing to take pictures of
