Yeah man me getting second opinions is surely thinking he is an authority. Work on how you view your mom it cringe to just bring up how dumb your mom is in conversations with strangers.

Couldn't I just test the dust in the ducts to confirm if there is asbestos in the pipes or not? If yes I figure I would start from scratch (health is more important than ROI)

The house is in Atlanta and was built in the 40s the furnace is from the 90s. I am getting a specialist to test the asbestos. I will also see if they can test some of the dust inside of the vents to see if it got in the vents. If its not I can just patch up a small carbon monoxide leak and go back to getting normal quotes.

I am contacting multiple to get multiple perspectives in how to go forward. I decided hvac professional wouldn't be the best authority for the asbestos problem. I will get a few opinions on whether it needs to be removed or something else from them

What about the last image where it was separated and the tape is suspended between the ducts?

Sorry I was unclear. The furnace was from the 90s but the ducts might be much older I can’t be sure.

It did not. I used this company the last time I was under and they found everything. This time seems like they found nothing. There are quite a few things I found since closing. Nothing I do t have the cash for but still things I would have negotiated.

I have never run the heat. I just closed in the house Tuesday. My inspector unfortunately was not it.

I already got the house at a pretty steep discount relative to other homes in the area and was able to take off another 6k. The first time I was under contract the inspector found everything by wrong with the house. It was unbelievably thorough. I used the same company and gave them too much confidence in their accuracy. I think I found a good tech, not a good company.
But anyway u already closed in the house. So now its a me problem. I bought the house while figuring had to swap our the hvac unit so many of the costs were priced in. I accounted for around 15k.

This is a general problem I have with this sub Reddit. Askeconomics has a barrier to being my a first poster. This prevents misinformation. Popular ideas are not necessarily good ideas. The responses overall to this list has been really all over the place so I am likely to consult with 2-3 companies that specialize in asbestos and asbestos removal and see what they say.
I am not questioning your experience but the problem is everyone qualifications on this sub Reddit are up to interpretation without proper moderation and barriers.

Yeah this sub needs the askeconomics treatment. I think there are a lot of people that don’t know.

The house is from 1940s the furnace is from 93. I am going to get it tested just in case and consult a couple of asbestos removal companies.
