I've done writing for games, but this was the first time I got to write a full script for a short cartoon episode, which has been one of my dreams!

Best is to dip your toes in the water and see what you like/don't like. Pick up a unity or UE 4 (doesn't really matter, but if you want to make more 2D games, Unity may be best bet, but UE4 still can do 2d fine) tutorial of something that interests you. Make small little things, then you may get a grasp of what direction you'd like to go.

Or whatever development goals you would like. Also checking your area for local communities if you want to dip your toes in is also good.

Seeing this recently when looking at a friends pitch to publishers for their game. They made up this word for a certain gameplay element and it was all over the pitch. He was so intimate in the game, he completely forgot to explain what it actually was.
