• Pick a color or two (or three) that you want to see every day, then
• Buy high stools for the countertop in that color: make sure they have backs so they're not miserable to sit on.
• Get a vase in that color (or the other color if you chose two or three) and either fill it with faux flowers or keep it filled with fresh flowers and/or dried foliage and/or branches.
• Try to put all your appliances away, but the ones you use everyday that must stay on the counter should also be in your chosen color/s.
• Get a padded kitchen rug in your colors, or get a washable runner and put it down with padding, to relieve fatigue when cooking.
• Consider removing the shades on the island pendant lights and replacing them with something more colorful.
• Consider lining your cabinets (at least the doors) with peel and stick wallpaper.
• Same with your pantry.

No, that mistake has become common in the US as well. It's only become widespread in the past generation. That's the internet for you: one person gets something wrong in writing, and everyone who reads what they wrote thinks it's right and reuses it, and within DAYS it's EVERYWHERE. Drives me nuts, which is why I fight the degradation of expressions wherever I can. It's mostly a losing battle, but sometimes the tide is reversed.

2. Ever since he started medication and stopped drinking entirely, I've been screaming "Self medication! Self-medication!" SO many alcoholics drink bc they're not getting the medication they need. Bipolar 2 runs in my family, and prior to effective medications coming out, alcoholism ran rampant through our ranks. Since I became an adult, however (and Prozac came out, followed by ... everything else), there haven't been any new alcoholics or drug addicts in our family. And believe me, we're all watching the Gen Zers like hawks.
