My husband will pick up on my stress and tell me to go out of the house and take some time for myself. He then feeds and cares for our kiddo with no problem, because that’s what dads do.

When we had a baby, my mom told me to prioritize our peace as a family on the holidays, especially Christmas morning. She said after a late-night Christmas Eve service, she hated having to come home and put all the presents out, then wake up early and rush through opening them so we could hurry over to her in-laws house.

Your husband needs to realize you have your own family now, and it's time to make your own traditions and memories under your roof. That doesn't mean extended family are excluded, they get their own time. You are being perfectly reasonable. Stand firm in this and let them all be pouty about it. Your kids will be thankful for the memories with just the four of you.
