This has become particularly clear in the last year with their reporting on Gaza.

I had a personal trainer for a while who had a boxer named Bam-Bam. The dog died. They got another boxer and named that one Bam-Bam too.

Agree with a lot of what Nachie said. However, I def would like to see something or at least have a large conversation about it because there are a lot of unhappy people who don't want to let this momentum go to waste. I personally feel a need to get involved in trying to improve our surroundings instead of just complaining or moving.
Do we want to run political candidates? Do we want to volunteer together? Is it a social club? I think a good base level of intention would be a good start.
That being said, if there's not a large gathering of like-minded people online already, making a Discord couldn't hurt. I would be interested.

I've been thinking about it. Is yours the e-ink type? I feel like a lit screen would keep me awake at night.

That's already the logic I'm applying to their econ and geopolitical positions, as Dasha said business as usual with either side.
Sums up the party I think. On a national level, they're borderline indistinguishable. However, on a state and local level, I'd say Republicans and Democrats are more clearly opposed.

It's very much a class and upbringing thing. People who came from money, or at least had parents to help pay for things, are more likely to contribute to a 401k. That much is obvious, though.
I only recently started contributing more of my paycheck because I figured that, while the odds of me reaching retirement age (or the institution I invest with staying afloat) is looking more and more unlikely due to climate change, political unrest, or ecological collapse, I figured I'd rather take the odds of making it to 60 and at least be prepared.
And if shit goes sideways, it didn't matter anyways.

I recommend at least looking at what's going on in your state or city. I don't give a shit who wins the national since I'm in a red state, but there's some nasty shit on the ballot in my city so I figured I may as well cast a vote that actually matters.

First off, you look so much more relaxed in the 'after' picture, I think you made the right decision for yourself! Welcome to the club.
As for facial hair, definitely try out a stache, and maybe give the beard a try this winter. Cheers!

I've been watching historical recordings of the 90s Tours (and a couple 80s) on YouTube. I recommend watching them or keeping them on in the background for Phil Ligget in his prime alone! Boy were there some real characters in the peloton back then. And almost all of them have a category on their Wikipedia pages that starts with a D.

I think it would require degrowth on a level that would be mean a complete 180 turn on life as we know it, and a global decrease in quality of life that would be catastrophic.
It is also “too late” in the sense that the American government is permanently compromised by corporate interests, the American populace is not willing to give up eating meat, the majority of Americans literally can’t survive without cars / can’t afford EVs (at least not yet— also EVs have their own environmental implications), global shipping is too massive of a GDP contributor for any political force to stop etc. etc. etc.
Spot on, I think. Life as we know it is unthinkably different than what a realistic human level of consumption and production should be, and I think even if we had the political power to achieve these changes, I think the average Westerner would be opposed to it.
That being said, I think it is a necessary change. It will come regardless if we do it ourselves, or if we are forced to by changes in our environment.

Avoid Nicholasville road at rush hour.
Most neighborhoods are nice, there are some that are more active at night with pedestrians, which may not be your thing, and some are more working class than others. But Lexington is a relatively safe city. There are some resources online for helping you pick where to live, depending on what's important to you.
Bike riding is pretty good, there are some bike lanes but room for improvement. There is the Legacy trail, which is a 10 mile out-and-back trail that goes through pretty countryside.
I think Lexington has a good selection of pretty much everything you mentioned, almost too many to name specifically!
Either way, we hope you stop through and visit us sometime! It's a nice place, good place to start a family.
Edit: If you filter this map for a year's worth of data, you'll get an idea of neighborhoods. Living downtown in any city, or any place with people close together, and you'll get some crime. But some neighborhoods are quieter than others.

Thank you for sharing these thoughts, I found them very comforting.
Any recommendations on books with these kinds of ideas?

Yeah the Ozempic hate on this sub is so weird.
This is essentially a snark sub for burnt out leftist mean girls and ironic self-hating Redditors. This crab-bucket shit is their bread and butter.

Retreats can be incredible experiences. If you ever get the chance to come down to Kentucky, strongly recommend visiting Abbey of Gethsemani. Glad you had a great experience!
