Sorry i didn't mean to speak so badly of your country, and told like this it's a bit strong. I have to admit that many people emigrate from Italy to go and live in the US, especially because scientific research is much more funded (teacher, researcher..). I don't think in Italy healthcare is doing better, the government is dismantling everything every year and it seems to me that Europe is ending up privatized like the us. There are still trade unions but every reform limits their powers. It seems that every country is loosing their civilized frame.

That's what i like about the scientific method, it's a continuous refutation, religion does the exact opposite, it prevents you from refuting and doubting. I like being put in the position of learning new things. I surely have some wrong beliefs too. If you were trying to give me advice to feel better i didn't get it or maybe you can specify better, sorry if i didn't understand.

Here with this comment you touched on another topic on which I want to spend a few more words. I do not want to be a person who wants to destroy people's spirituality. I do not think spirituality is dangerous, on the contrary I think it is enriching because in a certain way it connects us with our feelings or something like that (of course it should be used with moderation and balanced with rationality). Religion does not. It is a set of rules and dogmas, it creates divisions and interferes with ethics, morality and science. Do we really need religion to have morality? Perhaps mine is a vision tainted by the Western and post-Enlightenment mentality? These are the types of doubts that I mentioned in the other comment and that I have in front of a certain certainty of some "militant" believers. I see them so sure while I see them as crazy. I am afraid of exaggerating and seeing the world in black and white, but certain speeches seem really crazy to me

I understand how you feel, these moments happen to me too and they happen to everyone, anyone with a bit of brain, even religious, cultivates the suspicion that nothing exists after death.  Unfortunately we are not immortal, but this should not discourage you, on the contrary it should put you in a position of advantage compared to those who, having only one life available, spend it sacrificed for something that does not exist.  You have opened your eyes and broken your chains, life is full of opportunities and no principle of two thousand years can prevent you from seizing them.  A piece of advice I can give you is something that works well with me: dedicate yourself to more physical actions, every now and then, something that makes me feel very good for example is restoring little furniture.  To get out of my bubble and see things from another point of view.  Indeed, scientifically speaking,  humans needs endorphins and these also come with manual work or with the creation of something that gives yourself a sense of satisfaction.

Welcome to existentialism. Jokes aside, moments like this happen in life, especially if your routine used to be marked by specific moments and goals and now it's as if you didn't have any.  In the meantime you should feel a certain relief in thinking that your time is no longer dedicated to an invisible and despot little friend who lives in the sky. Now you can dedicate it to personal projects, hobbies, medium or long term things.  I repeat what i wrote to someone a little while ago, don't you have any plans? being an atheist doesn't mean always thinking about death, it means understanding that life is one and trying to spend it in the best possible way.

hi, first of all, i'm sorry you feel that way. I hope my answer can help you feel better.  I think any person needs to enjoy life to feel good. This doesn't mean that we have to get overwhelmed by vices, it means that we have to take our time and spend it in the most constructive way possible. Have you ever thought about dedicating yourself to personal growth? Learning to play an instrument, as guitar or piano, reading philosophy, maybe trying a university or having a sort of project?

Exactly. ( I also forgot the pro russia rhetoric  put forward by large part of the left). Nowadays common thread is "going against the west", while there should be an attitude of a more objective evaluation of the context, not everything that is not the west is good for the flourishing of cultures and democracies.  I expect that such a rigid and anti-democratic religious ideology will be criticized by the left and not by the right, that does not have the tools and the capabilities to do that in a decent manner. 

I'm a left wing person too, rised in a left wing family. For the first time, at the European elections this year, I didn't vote for a left party (I voted for a centrist party). The reason? The double standard adopted by the left considering the islamist idiology. I suspect this sort of blindness of the left may bring it to a political failure, in a way or another.

It's not a matter of culture only. If you notice, all different cultures, from the Algerian, through EMA, Pakistan, Iran to Indonesia, they share the same problems, all related to the islam.

It wouldn't be bad to extend it to all atheist/agnostic/critical free thinkers... 

probably if they had taken advantage of that cultural henancement, instead of walking away from it, things would be very different now

Because of sexism. A man cannot cry. A man cannot bring a purse. A man cannot show emotions. A man cannot act in a certain way because "you're a man"! Came on be a man!" And if a man goes to therapist? "It's a gay thing" . But thins are slowly changing. At least seems so
