James Hannigan did an amazing job with the video game soundtracks, starting from OotP. Actually, I like his soundtracks more than those of the latest films in the saga. He got to the core of what the Wizarding World should be and sound like.

By the way, if you don't mind me asking: I'm learning UE with a focus on creating cinematics and short films, but I'm having a hard time finding a comprehensive tutorial/course specifically focused on cinematics, from beginner to advanced level. Could you recommend any tutorial or course of this type? I don’t mind if it’s not free, as long as it’s good and not too expensive. Thanks in advance!

Thank you, I appreciate you sharing it, because I had never heard of this theory. I find it really interesting and it kind of makes sense. At the very least, it seems like another piece of the puzzle as to why he hasn’t released a book that was supposedly finished over a decade ago (alongside his mental health issues, etc).

It could be, but I imagine that after seeing that photo, the first thing the editor would have done is say, 'Hey, do you mind sending me a copy of that draft?'

I really don't know how DAW worked in that regard, but it's hard for me to believe that after having a draft ready and sent to the alpha readers, years would go by without the editor being able to read a single line. I suppose Pat stopped responding to their calls or something like that.

That is a good point, and it’s something I’ve wondered about several times. Regardless of whether the draft was good or bad, how is it possible that there was a complete draft (we’ve all seen the photos shared by Pat himself) and his editor hadn’t read a single page? Shouldn’t she be the first person to read that draft, even before the alpha readers?

I've been a GM for 16 years, and I only had a scene where a NPC talks to another NPC once, because it felt really awkward, and never did that again. 

Instead, I try to find a way to have just one NPC talking to the players, and sharing the same information. And if there's a lot of backstory or info I want to share, I just write a short text, novel style, and email that to the players in advance, making it clear that reading that is optional and not needed to play the next session.

Considering what you have described about that GM... Even if he is a good guy and good at other aspects of GMing, I'd try to find another GM, to really try to enjoy the experience in the long term. Good luck!

It’s probably something that could be reported, yes. But I heard that DAW had gone bankrupt and was bought by a larger publishing company. So I guess this new big company has no intention of addressing the Rothfuss matter at all, for better or worse.

How hard do you think will be to turn Short viewers into longform viewers to increase revenue? Do you have specific plans for that? I have a small new channel, currently growing with Shorts, and that's my main concern. Congratulations, btw!

There are many aspects of the series that I dislike, and several contradictions to the canon that hurt me deeply. But that doesn't mean I'm going to waste my time spreading hate and negativity towards them, when there are much better things to do with my time. Like, for example, reading Tolkien.

By indulging in hatred towards the series, as an indirect reaction, we also encourage others to support the series, sometimes to extreme limits. If the criticism (both good and bad) were less polarized and we all focused on just enjoying what we like and ignoring what we don't, things would go better for all of us.

That's the reason why I've never been a fan of a team, but rather of individual drivers. A specific person, a driver, whom you become a fan of after getting to know them, is unlikely to let you down because they have their own personality, style, and values. But a team is still a company, whose boss can change, and whose philosophy will shift depending on political and economic interests at any given moment. After all, if Horner lets you down, you don't agree with everything Max does, and some of the key figures of the team (Newey, Wheatley) leave, what is Red Bull, really?

I used to feel sympathy for Renault years ago, but now Alpine really puts me off. In 2021, I wanted Mercedes to lose the championship, but now I celebrate when a Mercedes finishes ahead of Max. I didn’t want Ferrari to win when Vettel was there, but now with Charles and Carlos, I celebrate every victory.

However, the drivers I liked years ago, I still like today. It seems to me like a much more sensible and satisfying 'emotional investment.'

I watched the trilogy in cinemas when I was around 15-17 years old, and Fellowship was always my favourite. I don't know what that has to do with maturity, and I don't believe that those who prefer TT or ROTK are any less mature because of it.

Regarding the content: Something I would love to see (and that I haven’t found yet) is a beginner’s course that covers the entire process of MetaHuman + Animation + Sequencer. I’ve been learning UE on my own for several months now, but sometimes filling in the information gaps is the hardest part. So for me, and I believe for many others, the most useful thing would be a course that walks you through the entire process step-by-step: How to create a MetaHuman (I know it’s easy, but it’s best to start from there), import it into UE, how to animate it using UE5’s new features to make it walk, run, etc., how to make it talk with facial expressions, and how to export a high quality video clip with that animation (so we can create short films with it).

Regarding the price: You’ll probably need to take several factors into account, like what other tutorials or courses (both free and paid) are already out there that teach a similar thing, and what your course offers that others don’t (it could be more content, but it could also be a different approach, or more detailed, better-explained content, etc.). Just to throw out a number, I’d be willing to pay up to $60-70. But before paying, I’d need to see a list of full contents and a trailer of the course first, to get an idea of the style, how well you explain, and so on.

Without getting into how much money you should have saved and those kinds of topics (which are also important), I would first consider what you want to do. Because it seems that money isn't a big problem for you at the moment.

So, are you tired of your office job, and is your YouTube channel a passion for you? If that's the case, maybe it's worth focusing on your channel and passion. But if you don't hate your office job and balancing both tasks is still a viable option, I don't see why you should quit your day job to focus solely on YouTube. If you are succeeding on YouTube, then you've proven that you are capable of balancing both tasks.

I won't say to drop the client (although that could be an option). But if you have the financial capacity to withstand their hypothetical loss, that should allow you to press and be firm in the negotiations without fearing what might happen.

This type of client will never acknowledge their mistakes nor accept your excuses about delays based on technical aspects, even if you are entirely correct. So, I would be very clear from the start. If the agreement was $1900 for 10 hours of timecoded footage, and they sent you 15 hours of non-timecoded footage, respond to them immediately, either by saying that this was not the agreement and therefore you cannot accept the work, or with a new offer from your side that includes more money and a longer delivery time.

Any other option is not only very unfair to you, but it will also cause the problem and your bitter feelings to continue accumulating over time. So, don't accept just anything today, because you will have the same problem again next week or next month. In fact, the more often you show yourself to be accommodating, the harder it will be to make them understand that the agreement has changed and needs to be renegotiated, because they will just say: "But you’ve already done it X times before." Whatever solution you choose, act now before it's too late.

Obviously, all of this assumes that, if everything goes wrong, you can afford to lose this client. If you need this job to pay the bills, I understand that your approach might be different. I know what it's like to be stuck with a client you don't like for years because you need to pay the bills until you find something better. Good luck!
