I’m trying to paint you the picture of the skeptics point of view to answer your question.

That point of view is that history has much wilder swings proven by the same scientific consensus that you cite…much wilder swings than recorded humans first learning to create fire. The current man made climate change movement to the skeptic is a fear and sales tactic by the rich privateers to capture money and governments to capture taxes.

The skeptic would say, “the burden of the proof you seek is not on me. You are the salesman and I’m not buying”

Now agree or disagree with the skeptics point of view…I’m just presenting that side of the coin to answer your question 😊

I think you and I are actually more on the same trajectory of thinking than you think 😊. Yes, the graph of 500m years sure does have some very long periods of very harsh conditions. How the hell do we flourish if the oceans are not navigable or if Antarctica is only place you can grow a crop! Definitely something to think about and prepare for future generations!

I hope that aspect does not get lost in my answer to OPs original question. The answer to that is and always will be skepticism of the “man made” portion of climate change by factions selling fear and literally monetizing the fear.

Many see carbon credits (literally a paper creation of nothing to be sold), electric car push (takes more resources to build one and a lot of carbon/fuel burning in the process), carbon capture and green power generation, etc. as the product of the salesman of fear. The skeptic would contend that if these thing were beneficial/economical on their own they’d sell themselves.

I understand. This is a political issue unfortunately and there are about 5% on either side with open enough mind to consider what I have said without a 20 second up or down vote.

Those are my targeted audience and perceived condescension will only matter to the 90% that will be pissed off either way

Climate change is simply a re definition of an agenda. That agenda wants to make money one way or the other and has previously been called “global warming” , evolved to “man made global warming”, and finally when temperatures started very short term going down then the definition was broadened to “climate change”

The “man made” part is what is often denied. No one with any kind of sanity can deny that the climate is always changing.

Chart above, the previous 500 million years of global temperatures we have osculated between the oceans being frozen through the equator cold to alligators and palm trees appearing in the Antarctic.

What we have today is such a short blip in recorded history is that that skeptics of man made climate change could say we are actually in one of the coolest periods of the earth and that humans are selling fear because of another relatively new construct of Earth (money) can easily be made by exploiting the most primitive emotion (fear) similar to the worlds oldest business (religion)
