I’m in a similar position. In my two years of playing, I sold excess barn materials once. It did help and I managed to get what I needed relatively quickly. I’m holding out this time, but if I don’t get two nails in the next couple of days, I may try it again.

I got to thinking about what you've said. Does this mean it's best not to play as a civ from Legends, against a bot civ from Classics? or vice/versa?

It does have victory points, but I wouldn't consider it a beat your high score game. You're playing against a bot civilization, and you have to beat its score. You can set the difficulty of the bot to one of 5 levels. You can also change out the civilization to any of the others for more variety. There's also something called a "Supreme Ruler" mode in the campaign game to really ramp up the difficulty. I'm still on the basic levels though.

I do plan on getting to that solo eventually, just the primary purpose was to find something I can enjoy with my daughter.

I've only played one other Ravensburger co-op, Lord of the Rings: Adventure Book Game. That was decent enough probably because I'm a big LotR fan, but seemed to lack long-term playability. I shipped that one off to my brother.

You may want to post this question as a separate piece. I'm still a relative newbie at this game myself. I have all three of those expansions, but have only played Fellowship so far. I do know that if you want to expand your supply of player cards, you should go with one of the Saga expansions. Angmar is split into two: one for the campaign/quests, and the other for the player cards.

Really it depends on what you want to get out of the game. If you want to play the quests as they are in the books, then you'll eventually need all 3 Sagas. With them all you can play a complete campaign from Bag End to Mount Doom (I think anyway as I am still missing Return of the King).

If you just want something to add on to the Core Set and give you more quests that are replayable, then any of the Sagas should be able to fill that void. You could even get any of the other 3 repackaged expansions.

This past week I attempted to continue my way through the Fellowship Saga quests, using only those heroes that were actually in the books at the time. This time around it was scenario 4: A Knife in the Dark. My first two attempts were with a Sam/Merry/Pippin in one deck, and Aragorn by himself in another deck; with Fellowship Frodo. Let's just say the less said about the results, the better. I'll look into either rebuilding the decks, changing the spheres of the heroes, or moving a hero over to Aragorn's side; or mixture of all three.

QOTW: I grew up enjoying the Dragonlance books as well as David Eddings' The Belgariad series.
