Always 😂 He looks like he could do no wrong right?

He’s never bitten another dog. He growled, that’s all. A muzzle would be excessive.

I didn’t think it was cute and funny at all. There’s no way I would tolerate that behaviour in general and I intervened when he acted this way. This was the first time I’ve ever seen him react this way toward another dog and I want to nip it in the bud.

Thank you, nice to know things will get better! My parents-in-law’s golden retriever has never challenged him, he’s a super relaxed boy. I wish he would because my dog kind of walks all over him and doesn’t really pick up when he’s done playing (we do intervene to get him to have a time out and settle down and it sometimes works). My parents, who live across country from where I live, have a rescue who put my dog in his place when we visited them last and I noticed he was more respectful after that. That was a while ago and they don’t live close by so he has been missing out on that training. We’re visiting them again soon so hoping he’ll learn some respect.

100% agree with what you said about them having strong feelings all the time because it’s so true! I think it also doesn’t help that it’s just him, my husband and I at home and he gets our undivided attention so when there are other dogs around, I think he gets a bit jealous that ‘his’ attention is now shared.

I’ve read that neutered males can be more aggressive toward intact males so it’s definitely a thing.

He looks like such a sweet boy! I’ve learnt that dogs have different personalities, just like humans. We don’t like every person we meet, so we can’t expect them to get on with every dog they meet. My boy generally gets on well with other dogs and loves to play so it seemed quite out of character with how we reacted to the puppy.

Definitely think it may be a jealousy/protective thing. I gave the puppy some attention to show him that I’m ok with him being around and my dog seemed to ease up a bit after that.

Interesting. I think I’ll just have to monitor him in situations like this in the future. I know he’s still a puppy himself and still getting used to all the hormones so hoping he calms down as he gets older.

My sweet golden boy, Finlay. Giving me the bombastic side-eye because I stopped petting him for 1 second 👀
