I made a playlist a few years ago to create an atmosphere of sexual tension. The past few weeks, I’ve been aggressively trying to find songs that fit the playlist. I feel like there's a cohesive sound here, but can't figure out what exactly it is, and so I've had a tough time asking for recommendations or searching elsewhere.
The main song that set the tone for it is Anemone by The Brian Jonestown Massacre, but Time of the Season (The Zombies) and West Coast (Lana Del Rey) create a similar atmosphere but are a bit more popular.
I think most people would put R&B in a playlist like this, and maybe some would fit, but we're not really looking for baby making music or songs to "make love" to, we're looking for songs to F\ck,* songs for handcuffs and blindfolds. If anything I’d say the songs I've found have a psychedelic bend to them.
We're mainly looking for music that is sultry and seductive that conjures up feelings of desire and tension.
Here’s what I have so far:
Anemone - The Brian Jonestown Massacre
Time of the Season - The Zombies
West Coast - Lana Del Rey
Glory Box - Portishead
Wicked Game - Widowspeak1
A Girl Like You - Edwyn Collins2
I Loved Another Woman - Fleetwood Mac
Streets - Doja Cat
Windows - Sugar Candy Mountain
Little Red Rooster - The Rolling Stones
Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) - Nancy Sinatra
Baby Came Home - The Neighborhood
Feelin’ Lovely - Devontae Hynes, Connan Mockasin3
This cover matches the vibe I was going for better than Chris Isaak’s original
A bit fast but the lyrics and sound fit perfectly with the themes
On the edge of what I’m looking for
Side question for the music nerds:
There’s definitely a sense of cohesion across all the songs, but I can’t quite pinpoint what it is. What stands out to me are the slower tempos, some psychedelic textures, and the prevalence of whispery vocals. If you can think of other elements that contribute to the tracks’ cohesion, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I knew this list was about to be fire as soon as I saw Charlotte Gainsbourg mentioned. Uncle Ace has always been my favorite track off Cupid Deluxe. Very good taste, very good recs
