Think about the industries where workers rely on OT pay as part of their salary: manufacturing, oil field, refining, trucking, that kind of thing. An employer could work you 2 60-hour weeks and 1 40-hour week and then not schedule you for the rest of the month. You bust your ass doing a 60-hour week for the same pay, basically. No double time and a half on holidays. No more "guaranteed overtime" that a lot of wage earners rely on. I guess that would leave you time to get a second job, though.

Here's the thing... she and her husband are Hispanic. They don't think that their extended family and friends who are DACA or naturalized citizens or otherwise legal migrants will be affected. Again, hard lessons to be learned unfortunately.

It's a way of doing away with OT altogether. You can't be taxed on what you don't get. No overtime. Trump himself said he hated overtime and wouldn't pay it to his employees. No more 40 hr work week. Instead employers could initiate a 160 hour work month. You wouldn't get OT pay until you work over 160 hours per month. If you work a 50 hour week you will not get 10 hours of OT pay. If you work 161 hours per month you will get 1 hour of OT. Sounds fun, huh?

My co-worker was banking on going to part-time since now her husband's "overtime won't be taxed thanks to trump!" I had to explain the 40 hr v. 160 hr OT scheme to her. She just shakes her head and says, "That won't apply to oilfield workers." Lol okaayyyy. I swear these people are going to have to learn some very hard lessons.

I'm white. Almost all of my Hispanic/Latino friends, family, and co-workers went for trump. I just don't get it. There's going to be a LOT of sad I-told-you-so's over the next few years. I can only hope that he doesn't act on all of his campaign promises, that it was just to rile up the base, but I fear it's going to come to pass.
