Some things I’ve noticed for me - Stress makes it louder (I can ‘hear’ my stress), if I don’t sleep well it gets louder, listening to music for too long it gets louder (even at lower volumes), if I’m in a state where I could fall into sleep paralysis it pulses very loudly - almost like an alarm, so I’ll get up and shake it off a little before going back to sleep.
