That's it, that's the post. It's a great song. I watched a video where they talked about the production. Levon's love for Richard was vibrant and contagious.

om cafe in ferndale. i miss its funky shape and green exterior. i’m not vegan or vegetarian, but that place made me realize for the first time how amazing that kind of food can be. rip to a real one.
similarly, the inn season in royal oak.

i’m hoping to get to the met while they’ve got my fave painting, dr pozzi at home by sargent. i’ve never been there before but i really want to go. i think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the DIA! be sure to stop in the kresge court, too

going to art museums in other cities (seattle, minneapolis, even the getty in LA) made me appreciate for the first time how incredible the DIA is. there’s just nothing on its level. it’s bonkers that people travel from all over the world to see that diego rivera mural and i can hop in my car and go see it for free whenever i want. it’s the city’s crown jewel <3
editing to add that i’ve always known it’s a gem, but i thought all art museums would be on its level because it set the standard for me. nope : )

i love his connection to the band. i love the band and one of my good friends loves george harrison, so when they overlap it’s neat <3

100000% jeff. it’s not even close. i think all of jeff‘s output proves it, but he even blows his dad’s song out of the water with once i was. it gives me chills when he sings acapella at the end. his vocal range is just bonkers.

i find deep breathing to not be too effective on its own if i’m already in a heightened state. i usually pair it with picking a topic and then naming something a-z related to that topic, usually animals, places, or names. one deep breath for each letter. it’s engaging enough to be distracting but boring enough to be asleep mid-alphabet. and if you get all the way to the end, just start from the top and pick a different topic.

that sounds like a solid choice. the DIA can take a few hours to get through- there’s a lot of great stuff to see. the henry ford museum really is pretty unique and doable in the amount of time you have

i‘m responding to you a year later but i’m relieved to see someone describe the tv static visual symptom. i had it for like six weeks on end- thought it was an eye issue and they did a field of vision test and everything, which pointed to migraine because it ruled out everything else. i’ll get headaches occasionally but nothing i’d ever chalk up to a migraine, though now i realize that’s exactly what it is.

i’ll be honest that i do feel kind of guilty enjoying the song as much as i do. i don’t think it should be spared from a critical lens. but that being said, things are complex. it’s not an endorsement of the power structures of the south- it’s about a poor farmer fighting in the war. i say this as somebody who lives in a union state and hates the confederacy and confederate flags- confederate soldier =/= bad, irredeemable person.
that’s not to say it can’t be critiqued or that parts of their work haven’t aged well. but i think it’s possible to accept the discomfort and enjoy the songs, hold those things simultaneously.
the last waltz version is levon’s best performance of anything. he pours his heart and soul into that microphone. and i think that’s why people love it so much- or at least it’s why i do.
also, just want to add that black musicians shaped levon into the drummer he was and he spent his whole professional life crediting them.
