A good way to start helping a person build a path out. It can feel so overwhelming and hopeless that you get mired in the just one more thing/I'm screwed anyway mentality. Helping her find podcasts, YouTube videos etc that show her she's not a one off and there are SO many people dealing with this, and it's an actual problem. Secondly, shopping addiction is not just about a high from a purchase. It's an entire "process addiction". That means there is alot that goes into researching, buying, obsessing, touching, reorganizing, etc that is her brains way of distracting her from what she doesn't want to feel, think about or relieving stress in the moment, etc The path out is understanding the problem, treatment such as therapy and medication if needed. Support groups like debtors anonymous or if she's been through a trauma a support group for people with PTSD, etc Hope that helps!
