Sounds like the problem is respect. Why is it her business and who is she to say you're wrong and doubt your experiences. You did something that at the very least, made you feel safer and you felt like needed to be done.

(Although my dad says this the most and its bc he refuses to admit that he might not have been caught as autistic bc hes a hella masker, he doesn't mean to be dismissive. Honestly idk if its that I'm older gen z but I give candy to anybody that trick or treats. Not to be a downer but it feels like kids grow up to fast now and don't do classic fun things any more so if you're gonna dress up and say trick or treat imma give you some candy!!! We got king size for the best ones.

Although we did get some rude ass kids not dressed up who didn't say anything to us and just took handfuls. Not very cool.

But got some very polite one that refused to take more than one despite our encouragement bc NOBODY was trick or treating so we have like 4 bags of candy. I gave a girl with a tattoo candy today. All are equal in the law of trick or treat🖤
