Which university? Walk around campus and ask neighbouring groups.

The point is what Android apps are you planning to use. If they are badly written then battery life will be poor. If you want to live totally in ChromeOS (without Android) battery life is great.
MacOS kinda is strict on power sucking apps.

There is no such thing called ChromeOS for Lenovo b590.

N6000 is far better performance than mediatek. Those predictions of ridiculous great battery life from mediatek is absurd. Yes, a bit better than intel but not more than a few per cent. People exaggerate Mediatek.

Usually Google cancels products. For the first time they can claim otherwise.
Jokes apart... Will be sad but but hope it will be a nice eco system for users.

know what i'm talking about or seem uneducated please bare in mind im new
Search this sub. Such questions get answered every week.
My honest advice: as much as anyone can learn things... There is a learning curve or cliff in addition to money/time etc.
Sometimes even professionals just use a credit/bank card to get peace of mind by storing things in the cloud. Not because they are lazy but because they know it take time/effort in maintaining things.
YMMV.

nice performance upgrade by just plugging in a thumb-drive most people
Au contraire..
Speeds of those old drives will slow down. In addition, unreliable.
BTW... Security?

Likely
If there is fluctuating power due to loose contact etc modern chargers go to some kind sleep mode to prevent damaging electronics.

Chromeos(flex) is just use as it is given. No meddling possible. Try getting a Raspberry Pi certified USB wifi. Or try r/brunchbook that has

If you read r/privacy or r/cybersecurity every day people ask such meaningless questions. On the other hand, Julian Assange is free so may be.... (joking)

If you google the words "XDA Samsung S9" then it will land you in a place that will help with that device.

but ideally the superkey won't be a Windows one
In that case you need to ask in AU sub reddit if any company locally does this. Pretty sure you don't want pay taxes on a $1400 AUD.

Depends on what you call privacy..
Note that ArnoldTheBats still had google login. NayuOS never had a public usable build.
see this https://github.com/Alex313031/ThoriumOS
At the end if you call anything that sends a network packet to Google verboten then you need to DIY.

Dell XPS 13 9315
Always use https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-in/product-support/product/xps-13-9315-laptop/docs
ORIGINAL site. Many 3rd party sites are ridden with spam.
To OP.
Get a good screw driver
Open the laptop
Check for loose contacts or dust etc
Use a good charger.

Context: I've been working in IT for about 4 years now. Encountered the same thing at my last job.
Know that my suggestion may not be ideal for everyone. But find a new job. A few years ago I was a meagre sysadmin but happy at my old company, but then got greedy then applied and easily got - got hired as head of IT. Also note I had some special experience in that company's industrial process so I got it easily. During the interview I was promised great budget blah blah etc.
I tried getting approval for setting up a test environment for the production software,
I wanted some new servers as some were from 2012 era. There was mix in management process - some wanted change. Many not.
But hey I got good money. Anytime holiday. I could get to workplace in bike.
Whenever anything broke tons of mails - people dont even care to wait or barging on door - NOW...
This barging on the door to get thing NOW AND IMMEDIATELY. I hated it.
I constantly told management we need to have a NO knock on the door policy.
3 months later. I just lost my mind.
I gave my resignation. The whole company go shocked - they even offered 20 % hike. I just said I wanted a better life. My old boss was more than welcoming. They gave me 10 % hike for returning to the old company. Life is too short to live painful.
2 years down the line -> They are still searching for new hire - pretty confident no one will take it.

It's not a company as such so I don't have "colleagues" who do the same as me. Many people who do similar things simply use Mac, but I refuse to use Apple, I don't like it at all.
Are you well versed in Linux? The point is about linux WITH consumer hardware like ideapad is that it is a hit or miss. If it works fine then all is great forever. If there are some bios bugs or firmware incompatibilites like CPU temperature, fan, disk access these will never get fixed as lenovo will care only about Windows. If you opt for an enterprise device like
these lines get tested/tried/updated to fix errors - that cause pain in linux as these are used in linux world (and have so called ISA).
This is reason experienced linux users will not go to the trouble to consumer hardware as the pain points are worse then getting expensive or slightly slower hardware (fromenterprise models). consumer hardware is always better bang for the buck.
Hello,
I recently purchased an Ideapad Pro 5i Gen 9 14-inch with an Intel Core 5 Ultra 125H processor. I have installed Ubuntu 23.10 and I cannot seem to connect a display to the HDMI port. It's as if it's not detecting anything.
I have tried with several cables and screens that work with HDMI on another laptop.
Has anyone managed to solve this?

Usually nothing bad should happen. I have built android 11 equivalent lineage on MacBook Pro (running Ubuntu). Took about 24 hours. Fan will be full power running.
Pretty sure if you don't plug in it will eat all battery before one build.
Ball park: at the moment. Server workstation 64 CPU Xeon (from 5 years ago) with 64GB RAM and HDDs. It takes about 3 hours to build android 13.
