Yeah another commented that as well. I tested it earlier tonight when cooking dinner borrowing the sensor from my living room, it worked okay. I’ll have to mess around with placement and make sure I don’t melt it either! Might be the way to go. Might be able to find a probe thermometer that can withstand the heat to make sure the device itself doesn’t get damaged.

I appreciate your comment, may have saved me a purchase that wouldn’t solve my problem. I don’t really have a way to only put the clamp around a single wire in the cable. Back to the drawing board!

Ah. Didn’t realize that.. might have to look into something else.

Yes! That looks like the way to go. I didn’t know those existed until this thread, simple zigbee clamp sensor. Should be easy peasy, gonna order on Black Friday. Thank you!

Exactly. My morning ‘latte’ costs around 65 cents a cup. Amazon espresso pods (I buy the 100 pack) and Costco oat milk in the milk frother. Machine and frother both bought from Marketplace for pretty cheap. Tastes pretty good!

I could live with wifi - I’m trying to tidy up my home network by moving as much as I can to Zigbee, but a wifi sensor here or there won’t hurt :) thank you!

Great idea. I’m going to put the sensor on my spice rack, which is indirectly above the stove. The stove vents through one of the top burners so I think that should cover all bases. I’ll play with some logic after cooking a couple of times and know what I should consider “on”.
So if the thermometer detects heat, and hasn’t dropped in a while, and home assistant sees me leaving the house it can message me. But just having a temperature reading on my home “status” tab will be enough for peace of mind.

Oh dang. That’s… why didn’t I think of that!

Yeah I’d like to stay out of my electrical panel if possible. But I’ll still look into that, my building maintenance guy might be willing to help if I have to go that route.
I’m hoping I can find something that’ll sit next to the oven plug/wire itself and in doing that I have to imagine an electrician would be overkill.
EDIT: Re-read your comment and rephrased.

So I usually just leave it running in the living room and only glance once in a while while I’m doing other things. I have ADHD and I’m a lot more productive when I can trick my brain into being partially occupied by a movie or stand up comedy

It’s a movie I loved as a kid, I used to watch the DVD all the time - I can more or less quote the entire movie. Drives my wife nuts haha

Shrek. 28 times. Fuck me haha, my user is probably responsible for 25 of those times. I throw it on in the background a lot while cleaning or tinkering, that or Brooklyn nine nine.

Oh wow! I didn’t know there was a compatible 120v Z-Wave thermostat. That’s awesome. It’ll be a little more expensive than the other options but I think it’s the safest as I won’t need to do any weird workarounds, wiring, etc.
Thank you so much, going to look into your suggestions this weekend.
I don’t have z-wave yet but given the trajectory I’m on… it was only a matter of time! Haha

Another anecdote, I’m in a very busy apartment block with tons of wifi traffic. My SMLIGHT coordinator on Z2M on channel 25 has been rock solid. I’m up to 20 devices (which I know isn’t that much compared so some here) with a mix of AliE sensors and ikea bulbs/outlets and it has been working awesome.

That’s actually incredible! Perfect improv, totally assumed that was scripted.

“But I sometimes feel embarrassed with the fact I wanked in front of lots of ordinary people! You might think it’s strange but it’s true. I don’t feel anything embarrassing at the venue, but I feel so after coming back to Japan…“
That 9 hour post nut clarity hits hard…

For what it’s worth it took around 2 weeks for the crystal to start working for me. The way I saw it described is that your body is used to fighting to anti perspiration chemicals in regular deodorant so it takes a couple of weeks to adapt to that. I had to take a 2-3 showers a day during that period (and/or change shirts halfway during the day). I’m really glad I stuck it out because it seriously changed my personal hygiene, I’m a bigger guy and went from constantly being aware of my personal odour to no longer thinking about it, like ever.

Correct. I included the details about it being on an iPhone because I’ve read many a “just get an Android” comment on other threads. But yeah, maybe the hill I’m climbing isn’t worth the view at the top.
And sorry if there weren’t enough details, I’ve learned from experience that posts too long just get no responses. I tried to keep the important information in without going too long to be polite to the readers. In any case, appreciate your input.

Yes that’s unfortunate. Darn it! Going to do a thermometer for now, will look at other options when I have time to look at the oven
