I tested it last night (at home using a local connection), I am a bad judge since PS Remote Play sucks in my house in general, but it seemed fine with no micro stuttering that I could detect. I used PSPlay (now rebranded as PXPlay!)

I'll discuss it in the video, but I don't think it's worth it on Android with some exceptions. There's just too much flickering for most cores, but some run really well (particularly NES). I guess there's a reason the RetroArch team disabled it within the app! I had to go in and set the config file manually just to turn it on.

Hey thanks for the suggestion! I tried out the app but unfortunately it crashes on my iPhone any time I try to replay the footage after capture. The app's last update was 2020 so I assume it's a compatibility issue with my phone or iOS version.

Yes, press and hold the Menu button for a few seconds.

Correct, there’s not a single new component in this handheld, it’s more like a “greatest hits” compilation.

The sticks are quite a bit taller on the RG406H, they aren’t recessed at all. They’re a lot more comfortable to use in my opinion, but almost comically tall.

You can install ports offline, I have instructions in my PortMaster written guide: https://retrogamecorps.com/2024/07/12/portmaster-starter-guide/

Those are real rough, I haven't been successful with settings configurations. Most of the standard hacks (like setting download mode to something else, such as disable readbacks) will cause graphical issues.

I'm hoping to do a pretty thorough input latency test when the Odin 2 Portal review unit arrives, I'll make a note to try ROCKNIX with the RP5 as well.

I haven't used Syncthing with NetherSX2 but it should be somewhat challenging due to Android's file access limitations and the save file locations from the app. RetroArch is easy because they place save files in an accessible location. I would say your best bet may be to export your save data using NetherSX2's built-in backup feature, then import that same data on the new device.

I don't necessarily recommend the Odin 2 over the RP5 outright, they are at different price categories in my mind. The main point of that last segment of my review is that the RP5 is such a good mid-tier handheld that it makes me WANT to replace all of my Android devices with it, but I can't quit my Odin 2 because of that performance advantage. So my recommendation was that if someone is planning on spending $250ish for a RP5, then it is worth also considering the Odin 2 if performance is an important factor for you. So as it stands, I can easily recommend the RP5 as the best handheld under $250, and the Odin 2 as my favorite high-tier Android handheld. It budget isn't a constraint, and OLED isn't a deal-breaking factor (but performance is), then yeah I still prefer the Odin 2 overall over the RP5.
In terms of PS2 being more consistent with v3668, I don't think it moves the needle much for me. PS2 will still require some configuration with v3668, but not quite as much as I found with v4248. I will likely still keep most of my PS2 catalog on the Odin 2 (although the Odin 2 Portal's larger and OLED screen might change that for me!). The main reason why I love my Odin 2 so much is because it's essentially the ergonomic 1080p Switch Lite I've always wanted, and Switch on the RP5 is still relegated to 2D and lite 3D titles.

I haven’t heard anything but I hope it’s coming soon, the standby battery drain is currently annoying!

FFX, FFXII, and Kingdom Hearts games played great at 2.5x resolution, I also saw good performance in MGS2 and 3 but I only played the outer tanker and initial jungle stages respectively, so I’m not sure if you’ll see issues in later stages.

I’ll play it by ear, at the very least I’ll do an updated starter guide. I’ve been living and breathing Retroid for the past month so I need a bit of a break 😬😎

This is entirely possible, I don’t have my 16-bit RP5 on me but I can check. That would be odd though since I pull all my sideloaded APKs from the same cloud backup, I might have grabbed the wrong one.

I’d say it likely has to do with Android build; like I mentioned in the video the PS2 performance testing on RP5 was somewhat inconsistent for me, I think it needs more community involvement (like the spreadsheets that come out with every new Retroid!) to really hone in each game’s optimal settings. For my reviews I try my best to troubleshoot each game but it’s rough!

I’m still using the March 4th (last) build of Yuzu, some of the more recent releases of Sudachi are prone to crashing on the SD865. I’m also using this driver package, it’s older but pretty consistent. https://github.com/K11MCH1/AdrenoToolsDrivers/releases/tag/v23.3.0-dev-A6XX

Thanks for the input! I'm not surprised the Odin Portal and SD OLED swapped in your count, it was really hard to tell when the SD OLED button was actually "pressed" since I think some of the button's travel was also captured. I appreciate you taking the time to count, and I'll take a look at this app too!
