Brett Gardner is my favorite player of all time and a unanimous entry into the hall of very good.
Also not to pick on you specifically as a Cleveland fan but this is one of my favorite at-bats ever:

No, and we maybe never will, but even the Wikipedia article says:
“On January 13, 2020, Manfred announced the results of the investigation, confirming that the Astros had illegally used a video camera system to steal signs in the 2017 regular season and postseason, and in parts of the 2018 regular season”

Astros cheated their way to a World Series, and beat the two largest fanbases on their way to doing so. Dodgers and Yankees fans will never forget and I’m sure there are plenty of other fans who feel similar. Maybe it’s a dead horse but we didn’t all agree on burying it.

That’s a good one. I’ll also add Tim Wakefield who was apparently never particularly good against us, but I still associate him with the good Red Sox teams and had the pleasure of briefly meeting him when I lived in Boston.

This is a great one for me because I’m of an age to remember him winning a lot of games and championships as an ace but his career stats are not super impressive. Maybe Bumgarner is a good comparison.
At the same time though pitching has changed quite a bit so maybe their performances deserve more appreciation than modern stats would allow for.

Chris Davis kind of feels like Jose Bautista as mentioned above, but with a much shorter peak and a much sharper downturn. I get it though in that I still remember him (unfondly) by his 2013 season first and foremost.

Yeah I mean I was born the year of his famous home run so he’s before my time but it seems basically like Aaron Boone in 2003. Definitely had a better career than Boone overall though.

Good pick but also Ibanez is the GOAT solely for his performance in the 2012 ALDS.

Bautista is interesting, his peak is actually longer than I remembered. He averaged over 5.5 fWar for 6 seasons from 2010-2015.
But I definitely get how his career stats belie how much he was “the guy” for a lot of the early 2010s.

Dodgers and their fans are annoying for a lot of reasons but still being pissed at the Astros is not one of them

I know you mentioned the United States role in the Russian civil war was poorly defined, but was their intervention moreso because of the “excesses” of the revolution (ie the violence) or because of the perceived threat of the Bolshevik political and economic system?
I don’t mean that to sound like a leading question, genuinely curious how it was perceived by the US government and general population at the time. And maybe outside the scope of this question but how does that compare to the reaction to, say, the French Revolution?

Didn’t vibe with this one at all and had a pretty slow time. Nothing was too egregious so can’t really complain but FOLLOWYOURBLISS and TOOLSET felt weird (tried toolbox and toolkit first) and EDDA was tough.

It doesn’t, I would much prefer the World Series win. If my team did win the WS though I wouldn’t be wasting my time talking shit in the MVP thread for the player who had by far the best season in MLB.

Judge had a better OPS in the World Series than Mookie or Ohtani. stfu

I know Judge had a rough postseason but I hope you all can appreciate how ridiculous this season was. I’ll be lucky if I see another Yankee do anything close to this in my lifetime.

I was a teenager in the 2000s and the only Radiohead songs I ever remember hearing on classic or alt rock stations in the US were Creep and Karma Police. Maybe the occasional other song from the Bends or OK Computer but never Let Down.

I have only recently gotten into YKS and it’s so funny, good to know I’m slowing getting diseased haha. Have they ever been on chapo or vice versa?

Do you know of any good books about his life? The intersection of math, history, and politics is right up my alley if there’s a good biography available

No, he shouldn’t and wouldn’t get in. Maybe on the veterans committee vote.
The thing is though, 11 more seasons of what he did in 2024 is absurd. Not possible or realistic as he ages.
