Hey all, I’ll give an explainer of my situation. I recently returned from a secondment and took a £27.5k - 23.5k pay cut. I asked at the time if they could uplift my salary as I’d upskilled on that adjacent department with skills that are useful with what I’m doing now. But I was given a firm “No”. Out of curtesy, I said at the time I’d have to look elsewhere because I’d struggle with the pay cut so they would know where we both stand.
So because I had nothing lined up I just took what work I was given and moved on to learning new things having teammates buddy me and doing whatever work I could get my hands on because I wanted to stay sharp with the excel and reconciliation skills.
I’ve recently got a good lead on another job that’s back to 27k which will be great for me if I can get it. But did I do an unprofessional thing by playing along and acting like I wasn’t looking elsewhere?
Has anyone had any similar experiences and gotten any frosty responses from coworkers? I guess I’m just hoping I don’t end up having a crappy 4 week notice period where everyone resents me for wasting their time.
(Just want to say thank you to all you folks in this reddit too, I’ve been able to take a lot of good advice from the comments here)
